    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    At KIPP DC, we believe that students thrive academically and socially in environments where there are high and clear expectations and where students are authentically acknowledged and praised for their positive choices. We know that proactively building positive culture in schools and classrooms is essential for student academic and social growth as well as the growth of executive functioning skills. As a part of these efforts, we are looking for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coordinators to help drive this work at our middle schools and to help create schools full of joy where students know that they belong. PBIS Coordinators will create and sustain PBIS systems, with a particular focus in Tier 1, support and develop teachers, create, maintain, and drive incentive systems, and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, leaders and mental health professionals to implement multi-tiered systems of support. This is an exempt position and reports to the principal.

    • Have experience leading a classroom with strong Tier 1 systems and procedures, as well as strong relationships with students
    • Understand a multi-tiered system of supports and develop interventions and plans aligned with school systems
    • Model for and coach teachers on positive classroom management techniques, PBIS systems, behavior intervention, and data tracking
    • Engage in network professional development sessions with the cohort of PBIS coordinators
    • Create and maintain a calendar of weekly and year-long incentives for students driven by PBIS data and leader, teacher, and student feedback
    • Collect and analyzes school-level data on how PBIS systems are being implemented by teachers and faculty and use this data to make programmatic decisions that support the whole school, at-risk groups, or individual student
    • Plan professional development, whole-staff initiatives, and individual coaching conversations that promote engagement of the school community in the PBIS program by seeking an increase in awareness and participation
    • Communicate the status of PBIS implementation to stakeholders including school leaders, MTSS team members, and teachers
    • Support in the writing and implementation of support plans for students and teachers for Tier 1 and Tier 2
    • Build strong relationships with students, families, staff, and leaders to effectively implement PBIS systems
    • Collaborate with families and communities to support groups of students and individual students
    • Commit/contribute to constant professional growth and development
    • While students receive instruction from 8:00am-3:30pm, PBIS Coordinators are on duty in school Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm two times a week, and 7:30am to 4:35pm three times a week.
    • Perform morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned
    • Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
    • Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team meetings
    • Respond to student and family phone calls as soon as possible
    • Pass a criminal background check, as required by law
    • Additional responsibilities may arise during the school year. This could include but is not limited to: attending staff and student field trips, open houses, parent-teacher conferences, home visits, and other events involving parents and students as needed. They will be communicated to all employees with as much notice and flexibility as possible.

    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree (Required)
    • Commitment to working with students from communities with limited access to quality educational opportunities (Required)
    • At least three years of teaching experience in a public or public charter school (Required)
    • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and classroom management at the middle school level (Required)

    Knowledge of multi-tiered system of support (Preferred)

    Compensation & Benefits:

    • When it comes to compensation, at KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. We look at compensation benchmarks in schools across DC. PBIS Coordinator salaries are exempt and start at $60,500 and increase with years of experience. Please see the ** salary scale here**. Teachers can earn up to $5,000 in renewal add-ons to their base salary each year they return to KIPP DC.
    • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
    • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
    • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, paid Thanksgiving week break, winter break, spring break, and summer break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
    • All employees who use public transit through WMATA are eligible for pre-tax deductions for transportation costs.
    • Employees are provided with a laptop computer for work.
