    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Manager of Policy and Advocacy will be part of KIPP’s Policy, Advocacy and Community Engagement team (PACE) and will report to the Director of Policy and Advocacy.  The manager will support KIPP’s federally facing presence inside the beltway, and support regions on their state and local work. They are a member of the Policy and Public Affairs team, who works collaboratively with the Chief of Policy and Public Affairs, KIPP’s communications team, regional advocacy teams, KIPP Forward, PR/Marketing teams, as well as a coalition of high-performing CMOs and other advocates, think tanks and education thought leaders. To date, KIPP’s policy work has spanned a variety of policy areas including K-12, higher education, nutrition and immigration policy, to name a few. Ideal candidates will be a detailed oriented, team player who seeks to keep students at the center of all we do.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    The Manager of Policy and Advocacy, will support our Policy and Advocacy strategy with a focus on the following efforts:

    • Develop written materials for the Policy and Advocacy team, including but not limited to prep memos, letters and invitations to various events, advocacy materials and other policy collateral.
    • Build relationships by supporting and executing outreach to Congressional offices and the Administration for the KIPP network to support our policy and advocacy agenda and ensure that our regions and schools continue to receive federal funding to support their growth and sustained success on an annual basis.
    • Provide research and analytical support by bill tracking, researching voting records, attending hearings and bill-markups, and staffing other education policy related events in D.C
    • Execute planning and coordination of cross-team priorities within PACE and across the broader Policy and Public Affairs team  
    • Lead logistics on PACE team events, including but not limited to, Capitol Hill briefings, field trainings, advocacy days and assisting PACE leadership with additional special projects on an ad hoc basis, as needed.
    • Lead the coordination with KIPP’s internal communications team to plan, create and execute against a communications plan that supports the broader Policy and Advocacy agenda

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Deep commitment to both racial and educational equity; supports the building of an organization that reflects the community KIPP serves; holds self and others on team accountable for centering equity
    • 3+ years of experience related to policy and advocacy; education policy experience preferred
    • Passion for educational equity and the urgency of KIPP’s mission
    • Track record of successful project management including the execution of on time work and ability to collaborate successfully with teammates and other partners
    • Demonstrated success in building deep seated, positive relationships across the political spectrum
    • A track record of clearly discussing complex issues with, and energizing, diverse audiences both in writing and in presentations

    Additional Information

    LOCATION

    We are currently working in a telework environment because of COVID-19.  When it is safe to return to the office this position will be in Washington, DC with up to 10% travel.  This is a full-time, exempt position.
