    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW  KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools seeks an elective teacher. In the initial year, the teacher would instruct the founding class of ninth graders. As the school grows, this position might evolve or change based on school leader preference, student interest, and long-term course progression strategy. The elective teacher will also ideally teach their subject plus run a club or enrichment block. Because this position might change, the subject of the elective for the 2021-22 school year is flexible within a few desired areas, based on certification area and/or teacher preference. THOSE POSSIBLE AREAS INCLUDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: FINANCIAL LITERACY, JOURNALISM, EXPLORING HIP HOP AS LITERATURE, DEBATE, INTRODUCTION TO DRAMA, INTRODUCTION TO VISUAL ART SUBJECT, COMPUTER SCIENCES, OR ANY WORLD LANGUAGE. 

    We seek a teacher that will be committed to providing quality electives instruction that sets students up for college access. This position would work closely with the electives department and collaboration is key. Teachers are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader. For the 2020-21 school year, teachers at KIPP Bold City High School will work from 6:45a.m. - 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday and may have occasional meetings or special school events outside of these hours. Student hours will be  7:15 a.m. -2:30 p.m. Every Wednesday is a student early release day (12:30 p.m.), which allows teachers to participate in weekly professional development. OUR CURRENT MODEL The model for the high school will change over time as more grade levels are added and the model is subject to change.

    Students in the initial ninth grade class will have a seven period bell schedule. Elective teachers may have a homeroom and will teach several classes in their department in addition to a club or enrichment block.  Every student will be required to take two credits of the same world language course.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Our current compensation and benefits structure is very competitive and is commensurate with experience. 

    • Our current starting salary for a first-year lead teacher is $50,000

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Relevant Florida Teaching Certification or Eligibility for Certification in a relevant area based on the selected subject. Examples might include one or more of the following: 
      • ENGLISH 6-12, DRAMA 6-12, COMPUTER SCIENCE 6-12, SOCIAL SCIENCE 6-12, BUSINESS EDUCATION 6-12, MATH 6-12, WORLD LANGUAGE K-12, OR ART K-12
    • At least one complete year of teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom

    HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Two or more years of secondary teaching experience with a proven track-record of high achievement in the classroom 
    • Experience with teaching honors level or AP level courses in a high school
