    Job Description

    Dean of Students

    KIPP MA Dean of Students will proactively help shape and lead our school culture to ensure our students and teachers continue their growth and development. The Dean will manage our restorative discipline system, including directly working with students, managing our Associate Deans (if school has role), running professional development for staff regarding restorative practices, and monitoring our consistency across our campus. The Dean will also execute our DEI vision on campus by leading professional development, giving teachers feedback, and being a part of the Leadership Team to further drive our impact within our instructional coaching and classrooms. The Dean of Students is a critical role in helping to amplify our children’s potential by creating a school experience that affirms, values, and challenges students each day.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    School Culture Responsibilities

    • Highly present and visible during school hours, relentlessly ensuring the school has a strong culture in and out of the classroom
    • Proactively circulating throughout classrooms and hallways during the day to gain valuable context on student behavior and to help support a positive school culture
    • Lead all transitions including arrival/dismissal, hallways transitions, breakfast and lunch, and other school-wide transitions
    • May be in charge of setting the tone and leading whole school lunch
    • Model positive interactions with students and a variety of ways to handle behavioral disruptions
    • Provide students in crisis with space and strategies to cope and to improve classroom and school-wide behaviors
    • Model and facilitate restorative practices between and with students and staff

    Family Engagement

    • Serve as the point person for students and families regarding all disciplinary actions and culture issues
    • Attend and support at-risk for retention conferences with students and their families as needed
    • Communicate with families of our most struggling students on a consistent basis to provide feedback on their performance and progress
    • Handle culture-based concerns brought to school leadership by families
    • Facilitate family meetings between students, families, and teachers
    • Oversee proactive school-wide family engagement structures

    School Leadership Responsibilities

    • Work closely with school leaders as part of the Leadership Team to ensure a joyful, safe, and effective school experience for all staff and students
    • With the Leadership Team, develop and implement a vision for school culture that includes routines, procedures, and structures that affirm, value, and challenge students each day
    • Provide ongoing professional development and feedback to all staff on issues of relationship building, school-wide behavioral plans, and ways to maintain positive culture within the school
    • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, students, and families to create and implement effective behavioral plans accessible to all students
    • Set ambitious goals and gather data to monitor and report progress of self, staff, and students

    Regional Responsibilities

    • Embody KIPP MA’s Code of Conduct by acting with integrity, leading with humanity, centering self-awareness and critical consciousness, taking personal responsibility, and engaging productively
    • Participate and engage in regional professional development and community events as required

    KIPP MA staff are supported in their demanding work by experienced and dedicated leadership and staff who have themselves proven successful in the teaching role. Our leaders maintain consistent school-wide systems and procedures - academic, behavioral, cultural, logistical - designed to permit teachers to do their best work.

    In addition to the responsibilities listed above, there will occasionally be other duties as assigned that staff will engage in to help promote a positive and calm learning environment and culture.

    • Demonstrated ability to drive student growth and achievement and to create a warm, inclusive, rigorous learning environment
    • 2+ years of full-time teaching experience
    • Bachelor’s Degree required

    What We Offer
