    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW

     The Student Support Services Leader is responsible for teacher skill, development, and performance of the special education teaching staff. These efforts are done through consistent instructional coaching and performance based leadership practices to include reviewing and suggesting improvements on how to strengthen student development goals in collaboration with teachers. Responsible for integration of special education paraprofessionals in the classroom, clearly defining their roles and responsibility, recommending and facilitating special education relevant professional development.  

    In addition, the Student Support Services Leader develops and assists teachers and paraprofessionals with the creation of programmatic changes and individual approaches to student behavior, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) initiatives, BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Innocent Classroom, and de-escalation techniques. The position also designs, develops, and maintains interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors. Under the leadership of the School Leader/ Principal, the Student Support Services Leader develops procedures and training materials for special education, general education teachers, and staff involved with students with challenging behaviors. This role is also responsible for enhancing and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • 50% INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

      • Develops strong relationships with students, teachers, and staff to maximize involvement and support for student performance and behavioral development.

      • Work in partnership with School Leader, Assistant School Leader, teachers, and staff to ensure strong support and monitoring for curriculum implementation and content development.

      • Foster communication and collaboration amongst support services and students to ensure alignment with organizational goals in regards to student development, behavior management and support, and academic success.

      • Recommend to the School Leader what school-wide professional development, including teachers and paraprofessionals, will be the highest leverage in improving student results; lead engaging, actionable, adult-learning professional development; and hold staff accountable for implementation of professional development outcomes

        

    • 40% CASE MANAGEMENT OVERSIGHT

      • Communicate with appropriate teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff as necessary on behavior matters.

      • Actively participate in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.

      • Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data.

      • Provide work direction and guidance to teachers and paraprofessionals on strategies to address student behaviors, de-escalating techniques, and re-integrating students back into the classroom.

      • Conduct workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally challenged students in alignment with the KIPP MN guidelines.

      • Adhere to KIPP MN policies and procedures.

      • Oversee compliance of student support services files.

      • Collaborate with the School Leader and Assistant School Leader on due process actions.

      • Ensure that teachers and paraprofessionals have the proper paperwork for meetings and that the follow-through after the meeting is completed timely and efficiently.

    • 10% RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

      • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, families and community members.

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE

    REQUIRED 

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 

    • Relevant/ special education Minnesota teaching license

    • At least 2 years of teaching experience 

    • Strong record of ensuring students achieve academic success and holistic growth

    HIGHLY PREFERRED 

    • Experience working in historically educationally underserved communities and communities of color 

    • Previous school-level leadership experience

     

    Additional Information

    COMPENSATION

    SALARY: $70,000 - $85,000

    *In order to establish equitable salary practices; the compensation package is derived from the Regional KIPP Minnesota pay scale and benefits package, which includes medical, dental, life, long-term disability and retirement benefits as well as an annual salary review and revision.
