    Job Description

    The Development Associate for Prospect Research (DA-PR) will conduct tactical research, prospect for new donors, and maintain donor databases to support KIPP NYC’s ambitious regional core program and growth plans to serve nearly 10,000 students. The DA-PR will report to the Senior Director of Growth, and will also work closely with the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Foundation and Corporate Giving, and the Senior Development Associate. The Development Associate will also provide the Chief of External Affairs and the co-founder of KIPP with regular briefings on prospect research.

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

    • Use creative research techniques to provide high-quality research on individuals, corporations, and foundations, and to continually update our donor profiles
    • Synthesize and analyze accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, linkages to the education reform sector, and to KIPP NYC
    • Develop and maintain meticulous donor records, and biographical profiles in research databases and on Raiser's Edge
    • Develop a robust prospect research toolkit for KIPP NYC, using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including online databases, Internet websites, library and government sources and other external repositories of public information to identify prospects
    • Create documents (profiles, biographies, project summaries) using style and content appropriate to specific audiences, which directs cultivation and solicitation strategies for both the Campaign and Annual Fund efforts
    • Interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to KIPP NYC’s standards of discretion and confidentiality
    • Provide administrative support as needed as a member of the KIPP NYC Development Team
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ Degree required
    • 2-3 years’ experience in Prospect research (or comparable research) experience and knowledge and fundraising
    • Experience working with a relational database (e.g. WealthEngine, DonorSearch etc) is a necessity, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel. Experience with Salesforce or Raiser's Edge desired
    • Ability to shift priorities, multi-task and prioritize with a high volume of matters
    • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment with the handling of highly sensitive and confidential information
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the organization 
    • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
