    Job Description

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The KIPP NYC Community Outreach Specialist is a part-time position supporting our NYC Schools.  The Community Outreach Specialist (Part-Time) will work approximately 15-25 hours per week with limited flexibility. The primary purpose of the KIPP NYC Community Outreach Specialist is to represent KIPP NYC in the communities where we operate our schools. In partnership with our school staff, the Community Outreach Specialist will provide local families with information about KIPP and support through the application process.  This role will report directly to the Director of Student Enrollment, Regional Operations and work closely with the Director of Operations, School Operations Manager, and School Operations Associate at each of our schools to fill open student seats and build a robust waitlist. 

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

    • Effectively communicate the mission of KIPP NYC Schools as the “face” of KIPP NYC with prospective parents and guardians as well as the community at-large
    • Build strong relationships and credibility with prospective parents and/or guardians from diverse backgrounds
    • Target assigned recruitment areas every week, including but is not limited to: flyering local businesses, door to door canvassing, contacting local community groups and businesses, as well as handing out printed materials to prospective families at high traffic locations and community events
    • Administrative support in recording contact information and data about prospective families, including phone calls to new and prospective families and regular reporting to the Regional Operations Team
    • Assist KIPP NYC school staff to successfully execute family-facing events
    • Attend recruitment team meetings to refine outreach strategy and provide feedback
    • Informed on community events or the education landscape of New York City and/or their respective neighborhood
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • High School diploma or equivalent required, Fluent in Spanish, highly preferred
    • Able to stand or walk for 2-3 hours at a time and carry 10-20 pounds as needed (i.e. recruitment materials, etc.)
    • Flexibility to work weekday afternoons and occasional evenings and weekends as needed
    • A passion for or understanding of KIPP’s mission to provide an excellent education to all students and belief in the power of families
    • Able to navigate difficult conversations with families and demonstrate empathy and/or discretion around sensitive information
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
    • Comfortable using technology, including a laptop and cell phone, and able to learn new programs quickly
    • Ability to work in a team as well as follow through independently on required tasks
    • Ability to shift priorities, multi-task and prioritize with a high volume of matters
    • Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
