    Job Description

    Position Overview

    The Summer Boost project employee role is designed for rising juniors or seniors of all majors interested in hands-on experience in education reform and non-profit management. Interns will join the Summer Boost program to provide logistics and administrative support throughout the summer. The position will report to the Associate Director, Special Projects.

    The internship will take place from June 24th to August 16th, 2024.

    Responsibilities

    • Support the Summer Boost school operations team with administrative support to ensure successful day-to-day school operations, which may include, but is not limited to:
      • Organizing and distribution of materials to classrooms
      • Supporting staff with copies and paperwork
      • Restocking of supplies in necessary office areas (ex. Printers, teacher work rooms)
    • Supports the execution of daily core systems:
      • Student arrival
      • Student transitions
      • Student lunch/recess
      • Student dismissal
    • Positively interface with students and families on a daily basis
    • Serve as a full-time and engaged member of school staff, including accompanying students on field lessons (if needed), assisting with student enrichment activities, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of the Summer Boost program

    Qualifications

    • Be 18 years of age or older
    • Be actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State*
    • Have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a longer period may qualify part-time students for participation in the program), or be a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
    • A passion for the mission of KIPP NYC and commitment to being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven organizational culture, with an interest in raising the achievement level of historically under-served children
    • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and under pressure
    • Strong computer skills are a plus, including a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities within established timeframes and demonstrate flexibility
    • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, self-control, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor.

    Additional Information

    This is a hourly position for 8-10 weeks during Summer 2024. Compensation for this position is $16/hour.

    This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our NYC Office. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC.
