    Job Description

    KIPP NYC Instructional Assistants are either part-time (29 or fewer hours) or full-time hourly support staff. Instructional Assistants support one or more classrooms with academic and behavioral needs. The Part-Time Instructional Assistant will support in-person learning, basic social-emotional needs of their assigned students, and with remote instruction as needed. They support general school operations teams as needed throughout the day. Responsibilities differ based on school and program needs. 

    Duties includes but are not limited to: 

    • Working under the guidance of a classroom lead teacher to implement whole group and small group lessons
    • Supporting the classroom teacher by monitoring and implementing classroom routines, procedures, and management, including behavior plans
    • Support in the preparation of materials and other clerical support for the classroom teacher
    • Supporting or leading in lunch, recess, and arrival duties; supporting with student transitions throughout the day
    • Supporting during specials classes (including attending the entire specials class and supporting the specials teacher as needed with behavior management)
    • Committing to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration
    • Modeling a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure that each student is successful.
    • Modeling KIPP NYC’s character strengths in all interactions and communications with students, families, and staff.

    Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment and a healthy measure of the character traits we value: zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude and a sense of humor.
    • School-based and student support experience strongly preferred
    • Undergraduate, graduate student, or non-student looking for hourly work
    • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
    • A strong desire to become a lead teacher
    • Interested  in raising the achievement levels of students from the communities KIPP NYC serves
