    Job Description

    The School Operations Manager (SOM) is responsible for managing and executing smooth daily operations of the school Specifically, the SOM ensures core daily systems are effectively executed, student enrollment targets are met and maintained, facilities and technology systems are in good working order, daily student health and safety protocols are adhered to, and daily events logistics are executed as planned. The SOM reports directly to the Director of Operations (DOO) and manages the School Operations Administrator (SOA).

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Acts as the manager of daily core systems, ensuring processes and procedures are successfully executed daily:

      • Student arrival
      • Daily student attendance
      • Student transitions
      • Student lunch/recess
      • Student dismissal
    • Present for specific assigned daily duties

    • Manages the support requests of the following key operational systems, and works to resolve issues ASAP:

      • Technology, including classroom and student platforms and hardware
      • Facilities requests and concerns/issues
    • Conducts daily walkthroughs with the DOO to ensure facilities and operational systems are in good working order

    • Ensures that planned daily events are executed

    • Support Field Trip structure in collaboration with DOO and school leadership team to finalize efficient process throughout the year

    • Serves as lead on student recruitment and enrollment planning and execution

    • Supervises the School Operations Administrator to:

      • Execute daily student attendance systems
      • Positively interface with students and families on a daily basis
      • Ensure the main office is continuously staffed
      • Ensure that communications sent home are without errors
      • Ensure that student health needs are met and there is consistent communication with the school nurse as needed
      • School supplies are well-stocked and replenished
      • Copiers and office equipment are in good working order
    • Manages the School Operations Administrator:

      • Ensures SOA meets deadlines and standards of key tasks
      • With support from DOO, sets and progress monitors yearly goals for the SOA. Holds others accountable to set and achieve goals by monitoring progress towards successful completion of work (check-ins, timelines, follow-up action items) Models and develops expected character strengths, attitudes, behaviors and skills
      • Holds consistent weekly one-on-one’s with SOA. Organizes and ensures productive meetings or one-on-one’s with clear agendas and follow-up action steps
      • Delegates tasks to appropriate individual(s) to match interests, talents and stretch opportunities
    • Supports the DOO with special projects as needed, and serve as point person for all special projects work

    • Supports the DOO on executing systems that support the school instructional vision

    • Escalates concerns and challenges to the DOO in a timely manner

    • Progress monitors the efficiency of daily systems and reports barriers directly to the DOO to inform continuous improvement

    • Serve as a full-time and engaged member of school staff, including accompanying students on field lessons (if needed), assisting with student enrichment activities, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of school’s mission.

    • Serve as active member of BRT and assists in any/all emergency or high-urgency situations

    • Builds strong relationships and serves as a main point of contact with families, students, adn staff

      • Adjusts message/tone and style for each audience
      • Assumes the best in others’ interactions and abilities. Makes others feel appreciated, supported and valued.
      • Responds appropriately to others within 24-48 hours.
      • Seeks to understand the needs and motivations of students, so decisions are made with students’ best interests and needs in mind.

    Additional Information

    Compensation and Benefits:

    KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $80,340 - $88,370. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band.
