    Job Description

    WE’RE GROWING! We are looking for experienced assistant principals who are ready for the next step at one of our existing or founding schools.                      HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:        We’re looking for Principals in Residence (PiRs) for the 2021-22 school year! Our schools are seeking awe-inspiring leaders to be an apprentice to a current School Leader. In this role, a PiR will gradually build capacity (over one to two years) to lead a KIPP school. PiRs plan with the current School Leader to create key priorities and operationalize how to drive outcomes for students through the APs, GLCs/DCs and teachers.  The Principal in Residence is responsible for the effective execution of all academic structures and culture systems to improve academic outcomes for students.  An ideal Principal in Residence has multiple years of documented success in an AP role and can boast improvements in student outcomes and teacher growth under their leadership. Primary responsibilities include coaching assistant principals, analyzing instructional data, planning professional development and improving the quality of content delivery across the school. They love students and families, teachers, and the community they serve. 

    HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

    • PEOPLE LEADERSHIP & PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT: 
      • Work with members of APs grade span to support AP in setting individual goals based on school wide goals and student achievement data; 
      • Manage the performance of teachers through APs to get outcomes for kids through observation/feedback and professional development; 
      • Conduct weekly meetings with each direct report on instructional strategies, content, feedback based on observations and holding them accountable to goals;
      • Conduct regular classroom observations of members of teacher cohort
    • TEAM LEADERSHIP: Build strong teams characterized by trust, investment in goals, and ownership 
    • TALENT DEVELOPMENT: Identify high potential talent and develop accordingly, manage performance with the support of the school leader, manage the growth and capacity building of next-ready leaders (GLCs, Department Chairs, and high-potential teachers)
    • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: Develop APs, GLCs and next-ready teacher leaders intentionally in order to ensure strong pipelines.
    • INSTRUCTIONAL CULTURE LEADERSHIP: Conduct weekly walk-throughs in his/her grade levels to build capacity of AP and GLC, specifically focused on aggressive monitoring, use of real-time data and strategic re-teach in classrooms.
    • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with the school leader focused on outcomes of teacher cohort; uphold school leader’s vision for school culture and hold teachers and students accountable to expectations (this includes coaching around culture). 
    • Create and execute, with the support of the principal, annual plans that are  connected to historical performance data and drive student achievement and teacher development. 
    • Lead professional development for Assistant Principals, GLCs/DCs on teacher development, and lead professional development for teachers on highest leverage strategies for academic systems and effective lesson execution  
    • Co-facilitate academic progress monitoring meetings at the school, through the on-going analysis of student achievement data;  collaborate with Assistant Principals and GLCs/DCs to adjust strategy, determine teacher needs.  
    • Collaborate as a member of the school leadership team and regional leadership team to ensure all students meet school goals.

    • Proven record of achievement of student outcomes in a leadership capacity for 2+ years
    • Experience coaching and managing others and/or leading a team to results
    • Backbone 
    • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
