    Job Description

    INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT AND MANAGEMENT

    • 60% of work time will be spent on instructional coaching

    • Observe employee performance, record observations and conduct evaluations.

    • Conduct one-on-ones teachers based on highest-leverage impact statements to improve student outcomes.

    • Collaborate and advise teachers on classroom management methods and interventions

    • Ensure the continuous professional development of all staff by collaborating with other Leadership Team members to design, develop, and execute individual and staff-wide professional development

    • Participate in the development, coaching, and evaluation of Advanced Academics programs.

    • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

    • Assess curriculum by monitoring syllabi, course overviews, and lesson plans. 

    • Maintain internal and external assessment systems and help teachers use assessment data to further improve the quality of instruction. 

    • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff

    INVESTMENT AND SCHOOL CULTURE

    • Plan and execute Advanced Academics investment opportunities and events that celebrate student achievement, growth, and hard work.

    • Work alongside the Dean of Academic Progress to ensure 100% of current 9th grade students have a plan to reach enrollment in six Advanced Placement courses prior to graduation.

    • Serve as the campus-based liaison for Advanced Academics to ensure all questions are answered, enrollment in Advanced Academics courses increases, and students and teachers feel supported to do their best. 

    • Using restorative practices to create a human-centered and asset-based classroom experience that leverages students' strengths, celebrates their growth, and is tailored to their needs, so that they see the value they bring to the content, feel valued and respected, and stay engaged in their educational outcomes.

    • Regularly check-in with faculty to assess overall morale of the school and mediate conversations between faculty members, as needed.

    • Support leadership with building a student culture of achievement through investment, rewards, and activities

    • Support leadership with faculty reward programs and activities related to the culture of achievement

    ASSESSMENT COORDINATION

    • Support the campus-based testing coordinator(s) in the organization, rostering, training and administration of AP, STAAR, PSAT, ACT, and other assessments related to college going success

    FACULTY MANAGEMENT

    • Manage projects as determined by the School Leader and Director of Advanced Academics.

    • Be a model for clear communication and follow through

    • Work with advisors/designated staff to create a clear and coherent program that leads to improved student progress in all areas

    STUDENT MANAGEMENT

    • Monitor overall academic progress for students

    • Intervene with support when students have challenges with attendance, academics or discipline

    • Work with students to set goals and increase student motivation and investment.

    • Parent Outreach

    PARENT OUTREACH

    • Host parent events such as workshops, student-led parent conferences, open houses, or other events that support academic transitions to and through college

    • Ensure parents know the benefits of attending a KIPP high school and how to best support their student

    • Work closely with faculty to develop strategic plans to monitor compliance of the Commitment to Excellence on behalf of the parents and students.

    SCHOOL MANAGEMENT

    • As directed, maintain and monitor compliance in areas such as Special Education, 504, LPAC, At-Risk, and CTE students

    • Possession of a belief in inquiry-based learning and constructivist methods

    • Possession of a sense of urgency to do whatever it takes to assure that every student gets to and through college

    • Commitment to the vision, mission, values and goals of KIPP Texas

    • Motivation to grow as an educational professional

    • Desire to implement curriculum, instruction, and assessment that is cutting-edge based on educational research

    • Willingness to be an active member of a professional learning community focused on action research within the school and the classroom

    • Responsiveness; Follow-up and follow-through with students, families, and faculty members is essential

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

    • Proficiency using computers, printers, copy machines, and fax machines

    • Ability to travel throughout the district and the city

      1. Valid Texas Driver license with appropriate insurance coverage

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

    • Prior experience as a highly effective teacher, preferably in Advanced Academics.

    • Must be considered highly-qualified based on NCLB guidelines, if applicable

    • Previous leadership experience preferred

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Masters Degree in education leadership 

    • Previous instructional leadership experience

    • Teacher certification

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

    FUNDING:

    The Dean of Advanced Academics will be funded directly from the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER) grants awarded by the Texas Education Agency under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (ESSER II) and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ESSER III). This position will be funded solely (100%) from the ESSER II and III allocation for direct expenses through September 30, 2023, and may continue to be funded through September 30, 2024, depending upon the availability of ESSER grant funds. At the end of the grant period this position may be eliminated unless other sources of funds are secured to maintain this position or a similar position. The employee must sign this job description acknowledging receipt of the job description and signing their acknowledgement that this position is grant funded and is temporarily aligning with the terms of the grant period.
