    Job Description

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    The KTX Coordinator of Fine Arts role was established for the purpose/s of coordinating KTX Fine Arts programs (Instrumental, vocal, and general music, theater, visual arts, dance) and related activities.  This role also provides information and serves as a resource to others, interfacing with Fine Arts teachers to facilitate the integration of knowledge into teaching and learning by developing and conducting training classes on curriculum design and instructional strategies. The KTX Coordinator of Fine Arts provides input and recommendations regarding curriculum planning, provides input/insight on ways to improve teachers’ instructional techniques, and facilitates the review and selection of curricular materials.  S/he will serve as a liaison for the region and its Fine Arts teachers and programs.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Fine Arts Coordinator: 

    • Advises and serves as liaison and advocate to assist Fine Arts teachers, instructional coaches and school leaders in KTX.
    • Analyzes student and program-related data to provide information related to student and program achievement in order to evaluate program effectiveness and to provide information needed for strategic planning.
    • Supports in collaboration with employees, parents, administrators, support organizations, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that activities meet student, program and regional objectives in an effective and timely manner.
    • Conducts needs assessments to ensure KTX curriculum and professional development needs are met.
    • Supports in the coordination of state-wide Fine Arts activities  and  processes  (e.g. calendar,  transportation, field  trip requests, literature and equipment inventories, equipment repair and acquisition, fine arts facilities, set and equipment warehousing, etc.) to ensure that KTX Fine Arts programs proceed effectively and efficiently in accordance with the strategic plan.
    • Facilitates the review and selection of curricular resources and related instructional aides for the purpose of providing quality materials in order to meet regional, state and federal educational standards.
    • Identifies and actively recruits outstanding prospective Fine Arts teachers for teaching positions in the across KTX and assists administrators in performing personnel administrative functions (e.g. selecting, counseling, training, supervising and evaluating, etc., as requested) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring the Fine Arts program goals are achieved.
    • Maintains a variety of files, documents and/or records (e.g. reports, logs, databases, agreements, licenses, copyrights, State and local reporting, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and complying with mandated requirements.
    • Participates in meetings, workshops and/or training for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
    • Prepares a wide variety of documents and instructional materials in both manual and electronic formats (e.g. model lessons, recommendations,  lesson plans, reports, instructions, memos, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in instructional programming, documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. 
    • Represents KTX state and regional Fine Arts programs in working with external stakeholders for the purpose of promoting positive relations and enhancing related educational services.
    • Researches curriculum integration methods and materials for the purpose of meeting the regional strategic plan for student achievement and curriculum integration, including cross-curricular activities that better connect Fine Arts students and activities to the core classroom.
    • Supports teachers, instructional coaches and schools by visiting classrooms and (co)observing fine art classrooms and offering feedback for the purpose of enhancing their understanding and application of educational and curriculum plans, strategies and materials and best practice in fine art.
    • Manages and oversees fine art budget including a detailed budget proposal and tracking system and submission of all required paperwork to track and process invoicing.
    • Works collaboratively with teachers to coordinate and facilitate regional arts events.
    • Plans and facilitates virtual and in person professional development on fine arts curriculum (dance, music, theater and visual art) and instruction to ensure all regions are on a path to implement fine art curriculum with fidelity.  
    • Coaches and supports school administrators, teachers and regional academics teams to set and make progress and achieve fine art goals (for dance, music, theater and visual art) .  This may include occasional travel to each KIPP Texas region (Austin, Houston, DFW, San Antonio).

    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

    The Fine Art Coordinator reports to the regional Director of Academic & Leadership Programming and consults with the Deputy Chief of Academics.  As a member of this team s/he will perform other related duties as assigned.  Contributions to the Academic & Leadership Programming team include attending weekly data and academic team meetings, supporting and contributing to academic team projects and building strong relationships with regional leadership to support regional plans, goals and missions. The Fine Art Coordinator has regular contact and interaction with state and regional leadership, administrators, instructional coaches, teachers and other KIPP staff.  

    This position involves both working in a normal office setting with no unusual physical demands, and regular travel to multiple school locations to observe and evaluate arts programming which may involve moderate lifting and carrying.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Experience crafting and leading professional development, curriculum design and implementation, and current instructional methods required.  
    •  Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others, and forge strong relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders is a must.
    • Has experience with project planning and strategy work.

    Required Education and/or Experience: 

    • A minimum of five (5+) years of successful teaching and leadership experience in the field of fine arts (visual arts, theater arts, music, dance). 
    • Experience with professional development, curriculum design and implementation, and current instructional methods required.  
    • Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others
    • Valid Texas teacher’s certification.
