    Job Description

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    KIPP Forward is seeking a PART-TIME INTERN to join the CARES (Career and Alumni Re-Engagement) Team. In collaboration with the CARES director and post-secondary advisors, the intern will be responsible for supporting a caseload of KIPP alumni who are seeking support in their chosen post-secondary pathway, primarily with enrolling and re-enrolling in 2-year colleges or CTE programs.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    ALONGSIDE THE RE-ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST AND CARES DIRECTOR, THE INTERN WILL:

    • Create a strategic intervention and outreach plan for all disengaged and unenrolled alumni, set realistic, time-sensitive goals and monitor individual progress towards college/CTE program enrollment or re-enrollment
    • Guide alumni through aptitude assessments and advising sessions to help evaluate and connect their interests and skills to potential careers
    • Assist alumni with application and enrollment checklists, including FAFSA/TASFA, class registration and program selection
    • Support alumni with developing the skills necessary to persist to and through their chosen post-secondary pathway and into their desired career, including self-advocacy, problem-solving, interviewing, resume-building, networking, etc.
    • Offer connection to wrap-around services and individualized support around barriers that may prevent alumni from reaching their goals, i.e. social, emotional, physical/mental health, transportation or child care challenges
    • Organize and maintain organizational systems that track alumni contact notes, advising meetings, enrollment/re-enrollment progress and student personal data/financial records
    • Remain knowledgeable, current and curious about college and financial aid processes, higher education and CTE resources and all potential post-secondary pathways available to alumni
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • COLLEGE OR GRADUATE STUDENTS WITH A SERIOUS INTEREST IN PURSUING A FUTURE CAREER IN ACADEMIC AND/OR CAREER ADVISING, SOCIAL WORK OR COUNSELING STRONGLY PREFERRED
    • Past experience working with high-school or college-aged students 
    • Knowledge and interest in post-secondary advising, including college and CTE applications, career guidance, financial aid processes and social emotional counseling
    • BILINGUAL (ENGLISH/SPANISH) PREFERRED
    • KIPP ALUMNI STRONGLY PREFERRED

    SKILLS 

    • Relentless drive to follow up and stay connected with alumni in a time-sensitive manner in order to help them succeed 
    • Strong active listening (i.e. seeks to understand the needs and motivations of students) and coaching skills
    • Previous background working with high school or college students, with demonstrated knowledge of and respect for the cultures of the community served
    • Operates with a growth mindset, the ability to inquire and be open to feedback
    • Outstanding project management skills, with an ability to work on multiple tasks and projects both independently and collaboratively 
    • High proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive, and has previous experience utilizing a database, i.e. Salesforce
    • Experience with marketing and outreach via social media platforms, i.e. Instagram  
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
