    Job Description

The KIPP Texas Relay Residency is a prestigious, rigorous, paid two-year program designed for new teachers to gain first hand teaching experience and to obtain their Master of Arts in Teaching degree and Texas Teaching Certification in partnership with Relay Graduate School of Education. Please note, any offers for the Relay Resident role are contingent on applicant’s acceptance and active enrollment into Relay GSE. Please read this job description carefully and reach out to D’Essence Grant, Manager of Pipeline Programs at KIPP Texas, for additional information.

In this two-year program, starting in the summer of 2024, residents will spend their first year of the Residency learning from graduate school professors and pre-selected mentor teachers at KIPP Texas. As the year continues, residents gradually increase their teaching responsibilities before moving into a lead teaching role in the second year of the program. Residents must pass their final assessment to be considered for a lead-teacher position the following year.

During both years of the residency, residents receive professional development and coaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education and KIPP Texas. At the successful conclusion of the two-year residency, residents will have earned their Master of Arts in Teaching and their Texas Teaching Certification.

Residents receive a salary and full benefits both years, in addition to tuition contributions during the first year of the program. Residents are placed in all KIPP Texas schools in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade in core content area classrooms (i.e. English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Elementary self-contained classrooms. We are unable to place Residents in Fine Arts, Physical Education, or other electives classes). Residents are paid $40,000 in their first year of the program and are then paid a starting teacher's salary (based on the regional salary scale) in their second year when they become a lead teacher. Please note, there are out-of-pocket costs for this program. Residents will pay out-of-pocket for tuition and fees for the two-year certification and Master's program directly to Relay’s Graduate School of Education, although most are able to supplement out-of-pocket costs with grants and/or financial aid.
