Bay Area engagement intern is a fundamental role within KQED’s growing food team, providing insight, research, and action to our audience engagement activities, including social media communications, community interaction, influencer outreach, event planning, and more. The engagement intern is a core member of the engagement team, offering ideas and creativity to a small but nimble crew.The intern will help with the promotion and outreach of Check, Please! Bay Area across both broadcast and digital properties; general news and reporting from the KQED Food Read desk; and pre- and post-production efforts, as needed. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or to provide documentation of a need for exemption.Essential Functions:Organize and manage audience communications and engagement activities with Digital Engagement ManagerContribute to research, including gathering information around chefs, guests, restaurants, organizations, and media companiesProduce social media toolkits in collaboration with the Engagement Manager, including the creation of social media sharelines and graphicsAttend weekly editorial and engagement team meetingsSupport management of KQED Food’s social media accounts (as aligned with set strategy) to engage with audience and reach digital goalsPitch and lead a digital engagement project centered around your interests!Review raw footage from location shoots and drone footage, identifying best shots for promos and social mediaAssist producers on location shoots on show taping days, including behind-the-scenes photography support (where appropriate)Assist with copy prep and proofreading for Check, Please! Bay Area marketing effortAssist Engagement Producer in creating original digital content (memes, GIFs, vertical video, imagery, graphics) for social media (as assigned)Evaluate online submissions and vet guest and restaurants for next season (including their social media accounts)Knowledge/Experience Required:Even if you’re developing these skills, we encourage you to apply! Many of these requirements can be learned on the job.A genuine passion for food and drink, as well as a working knowledge of the Bay Area culinary sceneAgility in using digital tools like Google Drive (Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides) as well as social media and digital video publishing platformsStrong online research skills, with accuracy and attention to detailStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently, learn quickly, and balance multiple assignmentsExcellent oral, written, and online communication skills with a high comfort level for making new connectionsStrong cultural competence and sensitivity in communicating with and about diverse communitiesEagerness to learn and engage with diverse communitiesKnowledge/Experience Desired: Ability to shoot and edit additional video and/or photosKnowledge of WordPressStrong desire for excellence in written communications and developing a brand voicePassionate about supporting communities in telling their own stories from their own experiences.
