Please state which internship(s) you are applying for in your cover letter and apply to each one individually.This is a paid internship, working 16 hours per week from July 11, 2022 through December 30, 2022. Newscast interns learn the skills to become General Assignment (GA) reporters. They are sent into the field to cover local news stories and get to interview community members, elected officials and experts on the major Bay Area developments of the day. They learn how to write concise and important stories for a large audience, handle daily deadlines and pitch ideas that can turn into strong pieces of newscast content.We are looking for a diverse set of candidates from around the region for this position. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or to provide documentation of a need for exemption.Essential Functions: Newscast interns are assigned multiple stories a day. These include short reports that interns will eventually learn to voice (we call these “spots”) and shorter stories that our hosts will read on air (cut and script). As they learn more and become comfortable with our workflow and format, we hope interns eventually produce slightly longer radio stories and features and gain some digital reporting skills as well.Other Job Functions: Our priority is for interns to develop active and concise news writing skills, create strong story pitches and the ability to collaborate in a newsroom setting even if it’s done remotely.Knowledge/Experience Required: A desire to be a reporter, to tell local stories that affect the Bay Area and to learn journalism.
