Do you have a penchant for hunting down the answer to peculiar things about your neighborhood in the Bay Area? Are you curious about everything around you? Do you often wonder, what’s the story behind a story? Then come work on KQED’s hit podcast Bay Curious! With the help of listeners, Bay Curious explores the Bay Area one question at a time.We’re looking for an intern to help us make social video content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. If you enjoy clever writing, interacting with listeners and readers, and making a story sing, this might be the internship for you. Interns will also have opportunities to create audio stories for the podcast.Our show is looking to expand our reach in the Bay Area, and this intern should be interested in exploring new neighborhoods, uncovering untold history stories and encouraging listeners to ask their own questions about their cities.One of our core values at KQED is that we are better together, and that we commit to learning, growth, and holding ourselves accountable. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or to provide documentation of a need for exemption.Essential Functions:Write, edit and produce social-native videos based off original reporting or repurposing reporting used for the podcastWrite copy for various platforms such as episode scripts, audio interviews, newsletters, and social media messagesCut and edit audio in a digital audio editing software programConduct research for an episode, an article or interviewRecord audio, potentially in the field, for podcast stories or interviewsMake calls, send emails and speak with story guests and audience membersAttend and participate in editorial meetingsOther Job Functions:Participate and help plan live events that the Bay Curious podcast team and KQED staff produce for listeners. Knowledge/Experience Required:It’s okay if you don’t know how to do all those things. We’re here to help you learn. What’s most important is that you understand how to write well. Can you communicate ideas clearly on the page or in an email? Writing is central to what we do in media.We also expect that you have basic communication skills when speaking or reaching out to people you are not familiar with. That’s because you will be asked to make calls or send an email to someone you’ve never met.Knowledge/Experience Desired:We’d love someone who has made social videos for either personal or professional social media accounts. It would be great if you had some experience editing or recording audio, but again, we can help with that!Growth & Development Opportunities:As an intern with Bay Curious, you’ll get the chance to peer behind the scenes of what it takes to make a weekly podcast that’s steeped in audience engagement and narrative storytelling. You’ll learn how to offer editorial feedback to peers. You may get the chance to report a story for an episode.
