    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Engineering Foreman is responsible for inspecting track structures and roadbed for conditions that might endanger or delay trains; ensure compliance with maintenance standards; ensure compliance with regulatory standards; and where warranted, facilitate and/or supervise maintenance and repair of defective conditions.

     

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Delivers regulatory compliance for respective geographic territory as required under regulation to ensure safe, compliant infrastructure is maintained.
    • Inspects track at required intervals and maintains proper records of the inspections; notes and tracks corrective actions for exceptions.
    • Sets work priorities and objectives daily and makes recommendations to the Roadmaster.
    • Ensures that all maintenance performed on the assigned territory aligns with current standards; confirms that track is safe for authorized train speeds or protected accordingly, organizes and supervises the selective renewal of various track components.
    • Manages safe and efficient work conditions.
    • Plans work and allocate resources to ensure timely accomplishment of tasks
    • Applies performance management and interpersonal skills to ensure timely feedback and coaching as required to maintain discipline and improve performance.
    • Conducts engineering activities at major derailments and natural disasters.

     

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Valid Class B CDL with an acceptable driving record
    • High School diploma or GED required
    • One-year prior experience in track construction, track restoration, & FRA 213 required.
    • Able to work in a team environment and possess verbal and written communication skills sufficient to coordinate work and relate track conditions to co-workers, typically via telephone and radio
    • Must have requisite color vision acuity
    • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling.
    • Able to work in conditions that include loud noise. Work on and around heavy machinery, bend, lift, walk, stand and sit in confined spaces for extended periods of time and use hand and power tools.
    • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
    • Exemplifies KCS Vision, Values, and Culture interactions with coworkers, business partners, customers, and stakeholders.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Shift work is an essential function of this job. Employees must have the ability and willingness to support mission critical railroad operations 24 hours per day/7 days per week, working various shifts as assigned.
    • Schedule assignments may include after-hours, weekends and holidays.

     

    UNION MEMBERSHIP: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and the successful applicant will be required to join the union. Monthly union dues are required and will be deducted from the employee's paycheck.
