  • Responsibilities

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    The Division Engineer is responsible for monitoring bridge, arches, and culverts conditions and overseeing new construction, maintenance repairs or the renewal of bridges, arches, and culverts in the CPKC system. This role must also ensure safety of all bridge personnel.

    Works on complex issues where analysis requires advanced analytical thought and judgment. Develops functional plans, including business, operational, and financial priorities that contribute to business unit strategy. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements. Translates company and business unit objectives into functional plans and guides execution. Directs the design of work for a functional area across the enterprise. Directs the progress toward stated goals for manager teams and business professionals, with responsibility for multiple departments or business disciplines. Participates in the interview and selection process, provides training and mentorship, offers career development guidance, and is engaged in performance management. Provides timely and constructive coaching and feedback; develops staff and provides challenging opportunities. Reports to a people leader at a higher career level.

    POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Plans and implements proper job procedures to promote safe work practices.
    • Ensures full compliance of safety rules, good housekeeping, and safe working conditions for all bridge personnel.
    • Conducts safety meetings with and audits bridge personnel to identify safety concerns and ensure safe work practices and rule compliance.
    • Provides safe and reliable tools and equipment to bridge personnel.
    • Works with Purchasing to develop contracts for bridge repair or renewal.
    • Responsible for CPKC scales across the system.
    • Responsible for administration of safety action plan for Bridge department.
    • Stays within budgets.
    • Solicits quotes from equipment and material suppliers and Purchasing to ensure best price and availability.
    • Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and contingency planning to ensure stakeholder expectations are met.
    • Understands the relevant business metrics and applies effective tactics to sustain a culture of operational effectiveness that produces teams of high performing, engaged and empowered operational leaders.
    • Identifies when a rule/regulation/policy has been violated and has one-on-one accountability conversations with an individual who has not met expectations, using CPKC Candor, Aligning the Stars & CPKC ABC's, and have the individual produce better results.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, preferably in a job related major field of study
    • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, including leading and managing complex projects or programs with outcome-focused deliverables, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum three (3) years of managerial experience
