    The Department of Communication Studies in St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at St. John’s University (New York) is seeking applicants for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in fall 2024.**

    The Department/Division of Communication Studies:

    As part of St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Department of Communication Studies focuses on how humans use symbols, both verbal and nonverbal, to inform or persuade other individuals as they create meaning, form human relationships, and manage conflict in a variety of contexts, cultures, and environments. The Department of Communication Studies offers a wide range of courses to help students understand and develop communication skills within political, legal, professional, organizational, interpersonal, and intercultural settings. Students will select from courses that provide them with a strong background in communication theory and practice, and communication criticism and history. In addition to providing public speaking classes for hundreds of students every semester, the Department also offers a major in Communication Studies. Students who major in Communication Studies will take required courses in communicative practices and then specialize in one of three concentrations: Communication & Culture, Organizational Communication & Leadership, or Political Communication & Civic Engagement.     Responsibilities

    We seek a colleague who will contribute and develop the Department’s program in Communication Studies. The successful candidate will teach required courses in the University’s Core Curriculum, enhance the Department’s curriculum within their area of expertise, possess an active research agenda, and contribute to involvement in other Departmental activities. Furthermore, the department is eager to attract candidates that represent the rich diversity of the students we proudly serve in the New York Metropolitan area. In addition, we seek candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.


    Qualifications

    Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent by the time of appointment.     In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $77,600 - $80,600.
