    Title: Laboratory Technician

    Job Summary:

    The Laboratory Technician provides chemicals, equipment and materials for laboratory classes, manages chemical waste, and collaborates with the laboratory instructors to ensure a safe and efficient laboratory environment. The position is for evenings and possible weekends in the future.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide stockroom chemicals and materials for laboratory classes
    • Keep chemical stockroom stocked with proper materials
    • Manage chemical and glassware inventory
    • Manage chemical waste disposal for teaching laboratories
    • Organize the teaching laboratories with regards to chemicals, glassware, and equipment
    • Be available to provide equipment and chemicals during scheduled laboratory classes
    • Collaborate with laboratory supervisors to ensure proper coordination of experiments
    • Ensure compliance of safety standards

    Qualifications:

    • AS in Chemistry or equivalent (required) or BS in Chemistry (preferred)
    • Experience in a chemistry laboratory preferred
    • Strong commitment to laboratory safety
    • Eligible for a NYFD Certificate of Fitness
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Self-motivated and self-directed
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Detail-oriented
    • Ability to effectively communicate with faculty and students

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficient with basic chemistry laboratory skills including basic solution preparation, safe chemical handling, responding to chemical incidents
    • Knowledge laboratory safety
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $47,900 - $49,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
