    Run by industry veterans, Katch is an entertainment industry data analytics startup that uses a proprietary media genome to recommend TV and film content to users across platforms based on an individual’s unique tastes. The Katch Media Genome was developed by Dr. Nolan Gasser, the architect of the music genome that powers Pandora Internet Radio. Katch is looking for film student interns this Summer to watch films and analyze them, helping us to break down each film into its basic elements that may drive its level of appeal to different individuals. The interns will also have the opportunity to work remotely with Katch on other aspects of its business. Katch will host weekly online events where interns will learn more about entertainment production, marketing, and distribution. These events will provide many networking opportunities for the intern team. This is an unpaid internship, but students should be able to receive course credit or university approval. All work will be done remotely, with the internship running from Tuesday, June 1st to Friday, August 20th. Intern Responsibilities:Watch and analyze movies and TV shows in order to code them via the Katch Media GenomeRate movies and shows on the Katch app and provide feedback on its functionality and reliabilityParticipate in focus groups, KatchU presentations, and networking events, as desiredDuring the academic year, the internship commitment will be a minimum of 10-15 hours/week Required Skills/KnowledgeA love of movies and/or TV series and an interest in watching and analyzing contentAn academically-minded awareness of all aspects of movies and TV: context, plot, characters, cinematography, soundtrack, etc.A curiosity about why distinct audiences gravitate toward and away from individual movies and shows Learning Opportunities:The Katch Media Genome is a breakthrough, interdisciplinary taxonomic approach to film/TV analysis, capturing empirical and experiential elements across all content parametersCoding films and shows using the Katch Media Genome will forever change how interns watch, evaluate, and appreciate the films and shows they encounterInsights gained through the analysis process, including the connection between the “genomic” data and user preferences, will enhance the career opportunities of interns–whether on the creation, direction or marketing side of the businessInterns will also have the opportunity to experience the launching of a data analytics-based startup, through sharable and transparent lessons and experiences Networking Opportunities:Interns will have regular interactions with the senior team at Katch and will have the opportunity to interact with one another via regularly-scheduled eventsKatch is dedicated to fostering Community among the interns through a variety of channels: presentations by the interns, special events with outside speakers, socials, etc.As these interns are the future leaders of the entertainment industry, Katch will be able to leverage its broad connections to attract prominent outside speakers within and beyond entertainmentKatch will encourage participation in “KatchParties” and various discussion groups
