    Job Description

    Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) seeks an Accounting & Data Entry Specialist to join its talented professional staff supporting KCMBA and its charitable arm, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Foundation (KCMBF). High attention to detail and strong computer skills are required to manage accounting transactions and the quality and accuracy of KCMBA’s association management database. A degree in Accounting; a minimum of two years of accounting experience (preferably in non-profit accounting) is desired. 

     

    Experience with iMIS (our AMS) and Microsoft Dynamics GP is highly desired. Strong experience in managing financial operations, such as accounting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, asset accounts, audit support, employee benefits, insurance, and related reporting requirements is required.  Expertise in Microsoft products and the ability to adapt to other platforms is also required.  The successful candidate will exhibit superb customer service and the ability to multitask and manage many projects at one time, keeping track of cyclical activities while taking on new or unanticipated work.  Adherence to the very highest degree of ethics, confidentiality and professionalism is required. Advanced awareness of security threats and protective protocol are also required. A successful background criminal and credit check is a prerequisite.  

     

    This position reports to Executive Director, with oversight from a fractional CFO.  Basic functions include:

    ·        Monthly balance sheet reconciliations and analysis of income statements

    ·        Preparation of all general ledger bookkeeping entries adhering to current approval processes (including IMIS / Great Plains Dynamics) related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, and journal entry allocations

    o   Processing accounts payable transactions and ensuring that all invoices and staff reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with policies and procedures

    o   Maintaining treasury function, assisting with cashflow projections and making daily remote deposits

    ·        Update iMIS with payment and membership information ensuring accuracy and adherence to detailed style guidelines

    ·        Payroll Administration

    o   Preparation of semi-monthly payroll and reconcile deductions to benefit invoices and funding 401(K) and S125 Plan

    o   Preparation of onboarding and termination paperwork related to payroll and benefits

    o   Coordinate renewal of benefit plans with assistance from Executive Director

    ·        Preparation of annual audit and tax request documents from external CPA firm

    ·        Preparation of annual form 1099s, quarterly sales tax returns, KCMO annual business license

    ·        Finance and Investment Committee and Audit Committee  liaison (record minutes and setup meetings)

    ·        Insurance renewals

    ·        Data entry and support of Courthouse Security Pass Program

    ·        Other ad-hoc projects, as necessary

     

     

    While KCMBA is the oldest and largest bar association in the greater Kansas City Community, it remains committed to improving its community by supporting its sister organization, KCMBF, along with many other charitable endeavors.  KCMBF works to end domestic violence, provides free legal services to veterans and provides a legal education pipeline for diverse high school students in the Kansas City area. 

     

    KCMBA provides a healthy and happy work environment by offering ample paid holidays (including one week at the end of December), and additional paid time off time for staff appreciation.  Most of the staff is currently working remotely due to COVID-19, but in normal times it also provides many perks at the office including free parking, occasional free meals, a collaborative work environment and a beautiful office facility.  Due to COVID, the successful candidate will need to be flexible to perform some work from the office and other work from home, with a plan for all staff to transition to full time work at the office, anticipated later in 2021. Access to high-speed internet and basic computer equipment at home is required to support remote work. 

     

    The annual salary range for this position is $35,000 -$50,000 depending on relevant experience and acumen, with benefits, including: medical, vision and dental insurance, a flexible spending account, and short-term disability; life insurance (paid by KCMBA); paid time off includes vacation (5 days the first year); sick/personal time (8 days annually); paid holidays (about 17 paid days off each year, including the last week of the year); free onsite fitness center; free covered parking in the building garage; profit-sharing plan (an annual contribution of between 3% and 10% of your salary); 401(k) plan; and cafeteria (s125)plan.
