    HYDROGRAPHER / SURVEYOR

    This position will be based in the Neenah, Wisconsin office and will report directly to the Senior Project Manager.

     

    SUMMARY:

    The primary role of this position is to provide land survey work, dredging survey, hydrographic surveying, mapping and positioning support, reporting and general survey support.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Determine position and elevation of important features and boundaries in survey areas using precision hydrographic systems, GPS technologies, total stations and levelling instruments.
    • Calibration and trouble-shooting of land and hydrographic survey systems
    • Calibration and trouble-shooting of dredge positioning systems
    • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their precision
    • Perform field hydrographic surveys collecting bathymetric and other data
    • Post process field data, compute quantities, create charts, and report
    • Reporting of bathymetric conditions, quantities and other pertinent data to colleagues and supervisors for review and direction
    • Collect, assemble, review and report production related materials and values
    • Verify the precision of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
    • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
    • Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and technical personnel, clients, and others
    • Train assistants and helpers, and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys
    • Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare proposals or to direct others in proposal preparation
    • Develop criteria for the design and modification of survey instruments
    • Ability to travel
    • Any other duties as assigned

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 1-5 Years of experience within the hydrographic industry preferred
    • S. or B.S. in Surveying and Mapping, Natural Resources or similar curriculum preferred
    • Professional state license and or nationally recognized hydrographic certification preferred
    • Experience utilizing bathymetric survey tools including single-beam and multi-beam echo-sounders
    • Experience using bathymetric process software
    • Experience using conventional survey tools including auto-levels, total station etc.
    • Ability to work successfully as a team member
    • Perform the work professionally, honestly, with integrity and a commitment safety and excellence
    • Willingness to work 12+ hours/day, nights and weekends depending on project schedules

  • Qualifications

    EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLS

    • One year of experience, or an internship, in project management for construction or mechanical engineering projects.
    • Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.
    • Knowledge of technical and administrative aspects of projects including plans, specs, and in-house forms and procedures is preferred.
    • Detail-oriented, strong problem solving and analytical skills in evaluating situations.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project, and scheduling software.
    • Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Office environment – extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
    • Construction site environment – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach and climb. Exposed to high noise levels. 
    • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
