Kennel Coordinator – Help Us Save Lives, One Tail at a Time
Location: Fishers, IN | Full-Time | On-Site
Salary: $17.50/per hour
At the Humane Society for Hamilton County (HSHC), we believe every life matters. We’re not just a shelter—we are a movement. A nationally recognized, no-kill facility saving animals others won’t.
We are urgently seeking a Kennel Coordinator—a hands-on leader with heart, grit, and a “whatever it takes” attitude—to help guide and grow a team that serves as the heartbeat of our shelter.
If you're a compassionate animal care expert ready to mentor, train, and advocate for dogs (and the people who love them), this is your calling.
Why This Role Matters
Every clean kennel. Every walk. Every meal. Every moment of enrichment—it all adds up to second chances. You’ll co-lead a passionate team of Kennel Attendants, ensuring each dog receives exceptional care while keeping the team aligned, inspired, and accountable.
You won’t just manage people—you’ll shape culture, influence adoptions, and be the first line of defense when something’s wrong. In this role, you are both coach and lifeline.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise and support Kennel Attendants in daily animal care and enrichment
- Train and coach staff on handling, safety, customer service, and match-making animals with adopters
- Identify behavioral and medical concerns and communicate cross-departmentally for quick response
- Step in as acting Animal Care Manager when needed—own the day and keep the ship moving
- Oversee team schedules, supply inventory, kennel protocols, and cleanliness standards
- Assist with customer interactions and meet-and-greets—modeling empathy and professionalism
- Maintain a positive, solutions-oriented team culture in a high-energy environment
You’re a Fit If You Have
- Animal handling experience in a shelter, boarding, or veterinary setting
- Supervisory/leadership experience
- Fear-Free Certification (or willing to become certified)
- Deep knowledge of canine body language, behavior cues, and shelter illness prevention
- A knack for training others and a strong sense of accountability
- Exceptional multitasking, communication, and crisis management skills
- The emotional resilience to show up—especially on the hard days—and lead with heart
Why Join the HSHC Family?
- You’ll save lives every day. Literally.
- You’ll work in a beautiful, modern, purpose-built facility that reflects the love we have for animals
- You’ll join a mission-first culture of “whatever it takes” teammates who have your back
- We invest in training, growth, and leadership development
- Pet perks: access to discounted care, supplies, and in-house expertise
- And most of all—you’ll go home knowing you made a difference
