Save A Dog is looking for a Kennel Lead to join our Shelter Team. The Kennel Lead is responsible for helping the management oversee the daily operations of the shelter facility, ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of the animals under our care, and managing the schedules. You will also play a role in training volunteers, handling animals, and transporting the animals to vet appointments when needed.
The Kennel Lead works closely with the Executive Director and Shelter Manager to ensure that all aspects of the shelter run as smoothly as possible. This individual should be able to recognize and prioritize tasks as they arise, possess excellent communication skills, and work well with other kennel staff and volunteers. This position requires a combination of animal care knowledge, management and computer skills, and a passion for animal welfare. An interest and acceptance of holistic protocols is a must. Ability to work week days and at least one Saturday per month.
Save A Dog is private, non-profit 501c3 humane society dedicated to rescuing, sheltering, and rehoming abandoned dogs and cat. We work entirely for the good of each animal and are committed to find the most appropriate home for each pet. Save A Dog uses a holistic protocol, including homeopathic remedies, and we feed our rescued dogs a nutritious diet. We sell supplies and supplements in our shelter store. Responsibilities
· Work with the kennel staff, the Volunteer Coordinator, and volunteers, ensuring they are following proper protocols in caring for the animals in our shelter.
· Assist in training new staff, and both adult and teen volunteers, as needed.
· Ensure that all dogs receive proper care, including feeding, grooming, exercise, and enrichment. Work with Shelter Manager to stay on track with worming and other health-related treatment for current dogs and cats.
· Learn the adoption process and help with showing dogs and all tasks involved in getting them ready to go home with the adopters on the same day.
· Help to coordinate various activities with staff and volunteers, including: arranging in-house photo shoots for the new dogs, bathing dogs once they have settled in, enlisting and supervising volunteer help during the weekdays when extra help is needed, and helping to organize and manage various community service volunteer groups, meet-and-greets, and outreach programs.
· Help coordinate with kennel staff to ensure that kennels are clean and set up for new animals that are arriving. This involves sanitizing kennel floors, walls, and beds; lining the beds with clean blankets/towels; adding clean toys and bowls; and adding kennel cards and charts to each kennel.
Skills
Extensive experience in dog and cat handling
Working knowledge of databases and MS Office, Volgistics is a plus
Able to communicate effectively with diverse people
Excellent organizational and team coordination abilities
A pleasant, outgoing personality
