    Job Description

    As an Assembly Program Educator, you will engage participants of all ages in educational and entertaining science programming throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. You will act as a representative of Kentucky Science Center (KSC), working directly with school/organization staff and local volunteers to ensure that program participants have an engaging and educational experience.    In this role you will primarily focus on our traveling Assembly Programs: Captain Current vs. the Electricity Vampires and Ion Jones and the Lost Castle of Chemistry. You will also be trained to facilitate science programming on location at Kentucky Science Center as needed. Your role also includes maintenance and coordination of supplies, logistics, volunteer training, customer service, set-up and clean-up of programs, and other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Education.   

    Responsibilities  •    Act as representative of KSC in off-site locations, consistently embodying and demonstrating KSC’s values and executing its mission.  •    Engage with the public in a positive and friendly manner and communicate directly with program organizers and participants.  •    Travel to various schools/organizations and facilitate educational activities with participants of all ages   •    Present science content in a variety of formats, including but not limited to  o    Assembly performances: 30-60 minutes in length, includes set pieces, costume, and audio-visual components; typically presented to groups of 50 or more participants.  o    Walk-Up Activities/Expos: tabletop hands-on science activities presented in a short, 4-6-minute format to small groups of 10 or fewer participants.  o    Enrichments/Classes: Classroom-style sessions of hands-on science activities in a 60-90-minute format for groups of up to 30 participants o    Informal, play-based interactions with families and school groups in the museum galleries.  o    Leading short trainings for local volunteers on how to facilitate our activities.  •    Set up and tear down Assembly sets and Walk-Up Activities, including lifting and carrying supply bins, loading and unloading set pieces and supply bins from KSC vans, and setting up audio-visual components of programs.  •    Maintain inventory of supplies.  •    Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Education.     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    •    High school graduate or equivalent with some college coursework, college graduate preferred.  •    Experience in education, science, theater, or other related discipline in an academic, professional, or volunteer capacity.  •    Experience working with kindergarten through high school students (K-12) in an academic, professional, or volunteer capacity.  •    Comfortable working with the public and committed to providing excellent customer service, experience in customer service or other public-facing roles preferred.  •    Flexible, self-motivated, able to follow directions, able to work independently.  •    Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and able to drive throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana.  •    Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties such as lifting, reaching, pulling, and pushing.  •    Able to stand and walk for long periods of time.  •    Able to travel and work some evenings and weekends including overnight stays.  •    Availability includes at least 2 full weekdays (available all day), 3 preferred.  •    Willing and able to commit to at least 9 months of employment in this position.  •    Pass a criminal background check.   Kentucky Science Center requires that all team members provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
