    Job Description

    Kentucky Science Center is seeking a seasonal Offsite Camp Program Assistant for our summer 2024 Offsite School’s Out Science Camp program. The Camp Assistant will play a vital role in the day to day facilitation and implementation of offsite camps. The Camp Assistant will work closely with the Manager of Offsite Programs to ensure the daily coordination of the Offsite School’s Out Science Camp program. This will include traveling to offsite camps, attaining knowledge of the offsite camp policies and procedures, communicating with parents in an offsite setting, preparation of offsite camps and facilitation of offsite camps. ****

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Travel to offsite camp locations to represent Kentucky Science Center, manage logistics and procedures, and act as site contact liaison.
    • Assist in training Teachers and Counselors on day-to-day camp logistics and procedure and support staff in orientation and training.
    • Provide support to teachers, counselors, and supply assistants in preparation and leading of offsite summer camp programming.
    • Collaborate with the Offsite Programs Coordinator to coordination offsite camp programming including check-in/check-out, daily camp schedules, demonstrations, etc.
    • Be a point person for health and safety of the campers by evaluating and treating minor incidents, maintaining update health records for staff and campers, and stocking of first aid kits.
    • Be a point person for behavioral management of campers.
    • Communicate with parents before, during, and after camp.
    • Supervising campers during lunch.
    • Maintain and review camp evaluations.
    • Assisting with other Science Travels to You programs offered by Kentucky Science Center.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BA or BS degree in science, education, liberal arts, or recreation. Or comparable work experience.
    • Satisfactory part-time or full- time work record in youth programs, camps, volunteer, or other related programs.
    • Excellent communication and public interaction skills.
    • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing situations and react calmly under pressure.
    • Experience with program leadership and supervision of part-time and or volunteer staff.
    • Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time.
    • Able to lift to 50 pounds and perform the physical duties such as lifting, reaching, pulling/pushing.
    • Must be able to work evenings/weekends including overnight stays.
    • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
    • Ability to work comfortably with the public of all ages and backgrounds.
    • Ability to work comfortably with science equipment, multimedia/instructional technology, and safety procedures during training and in workshops or demonstrations.
    • Ability to speak clearly and present ideas effectively

    Additional Information

    • Starting pay of $16.50 per hour.
    • Part-time, non-exempt position, working up to 30 hours per week.
