Kindergarten Assistant

Position: Kindergarten Assistant Employment Type: Full Time Location: The Goddard School Fort Wayne Schedule: Monday-Friday

About the Position

We are seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Kindergarten Assistant to join our early childhood education team. The Kindergarten Assistant will work closely with the lead teacher to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment where young children can learn, grow, and develop.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young children and wants to make a meaningful difference in their early educational experience. A teaching certificate is not required for this position. Education or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the lead teacher with daily classroom activities, routines, and learning experiences.

Support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.

Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, outdoor play, and transitions.

Provide positive guidance and encouragement to children.

Assist with preparing classroom materials, activities, and learning centers.

Support individual children’s needs while encouraging independence and confidence.

Communicate professionally and positively with families and staff.

Follow all center policies, health and safety procedures, and licensing requirements.

Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

Work collaboratively with teachers and other classroom staff to provide consistent, high-quality care and education.

Qualifications

Required:

A genuine interest in working with young children.

Patience, dependability, and a positive attitude.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to maintain a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Ability to pass required background checks and meet applicable childcare licensing requirements.

Preferred:

Coursework, training, or a degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field.

Previous experience working with young children in a classroom, childcare, camp, or similar setting.

Experience supporting children’s learning and development.

A teaching certificate is not required for this position.
