  • Responsibilities

    Pre-Op/PACU RN/ PRN

    • The Registered nurse is responsible for the application of the nursing process to deliver safe, complete, and high-quality care to all Pre and Post anesthesia patients
    • The Registered nurse will provide diligent care to outpatient surgery patients via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment. The post-anesthesia care unit nurse (PACU nurse) will provide care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia, including general, MAC, regional, and local.
    • Communicates effectively, conscientiously and frequently with all team members to share information and independently solve problems in a positive, results oriented manner.
    • Provide pre- and post-operative instructions and emotional support to patient and, at times, family.
    • Maintain and apply the scientific knowledge relevant to the care requirements of the patient with consideration of age specific and developmental needs.
    • Attend staff meetings, educational and safety programs.
    • Demonstrate organizational skills to facilitate a smooth work flow.
    • Demonstrate high quality customer service to our patients, their families, physicians and each other.
    • Use effective communication techniques which adhere to common standards of courtesy
    • Ophthalmology and pain experience preferred.

    Hourly Range: $50 - $66 / hour

    Wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.

    • Assess patients prior to surgery
    • Ensure that operative and informed consents are signed and in order
    • Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
    • Initiate IVs and ensure that patients are informed about the procedure
    • Assess patients’ post-operative condition
    • Monitor vital signs
    • Log all findings in patient’s medical record
    • Answer patient questions and ensure they are kept comfortable
    • Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the physician
    • Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies

    Required Experience

    Education, Training and Experience:

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

    Current California Nursing License

    Current BLS and ACLS

    Understand principles of aseptic technique and their implementation

    Circulating experience preferred, willing to train

    • Previous experience working in an ambulatory surgical setting preferred.
