    Job Description

    Job Description

    As a Purchasing Agent for a manufacturer of test and measurement equipment, you would be responsible for overseeing the procurement process of raw materials, components, and other resources needed for production.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Supplier Selection and Management:

    • Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers that provide high-quality materials at competitive prices.
    • Foster strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring timely deliveries, quality assurance and cost-effectiveness.

    2. Sourcing and Procurement:

    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to understand component requirements and specifications.
    • Maintain multiple sources for procuring critical parts and components.
    • Proactively source and procure long lead time or challenging parts and components to ensure no production delays.
    • Effectively use ERP/MRP system to identify production procurement demands and purchase accordingly to avoid production delays.

    3. Cost Negotiation and Budget Management:

    • Negotiate terms, conditions, and prices with suppliers to ensure the best possible deals for the company. This includes payment terms, delivery schedules, and quality standards.

    4. Inventory Management and Supply Chain:

    • Monitor inventory levels using ERP/MRP data and production requests to ensure that materials are available when needed, but also avoid overstocking to minimize carrying costs.
    • Monitor lead times and supplier performance to prevent disruptions in production.
    • Use all aspects of ERP/MRP system to ensure inventory levels are properly maintained.

    5. Market Research:

    • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and market conditions to make informed purchasing decisions.

    6. Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that purchased materials meet the required quality standards and specifications as defined by the industry and the company.

    7. Risk Management:

    • Identify potential risks in the supply chain, such as shortages, price fluctuations, or geopolitical issues, and develop contingency plans.

    8. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure that all purchases comply with relevant industry regulations and standards.

    Skills and Qualities:

    1. Knowledge of the industry: Have experience in the procurement of raw materials, electrical components, and fabricated parts, and be familiar with suppliers of same, including skilled machine shops, circuit board assembly companies, sheet metal fabricators, and manufacturers of custom plastic parts.
    2. Organization Skills and Time Management: Highly organized and able to balance multiple tasks, such as managing inventory, supplier relationships, and cost analysis. Willing to learn and effectively use our ERP/MRP system.
    3. Attention to Detail: Able to discern between long complex part numbers to ensure correct ordering.
    4. Communication Skills: Able to develop a strong rapport with suppliers and convey expectations, as well as work well company engineers and production department.
    5. Problem Solving: Able to research and propose solutions to procurement challenges.
    6. Analytical Skills: Able to analyze data, market trends, and supplier performance to make informed decisions.
    7. Negotiation Skills: Able to negotiate favorable terms and conditions with suppliers for cost-effective procurement.
