    Job Description

    Our Trade Compliance Paralegal will play an integral role in KIOXIA’s Trade Compliance Programs in an effort to ensure compliance with import and export control regulations in the U.S., Japan and other applicable jurisdictions. The successful candidate will support the development and management of import and export programs and will be expected to grow their knowledge of trade regulations in alignment with the company’s evolving needs. RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist in coordinating and enforcing compliance with our export control programs.
      • Support sales and R&D teams in screening customers and/or business partners for compliance with export control programs, including supporting the collection and analysis of data on both existing and new customers/business partners and their businesses (products, applications, logistics, future prospects, end users of the customer’s products by type and location, compliance program, etc.)
      • Assist all levels within the company to understand and comply with export control requirements, including by developing and implementing export control compliance trainings.
      • Assist in audits related to our export control program.
    • Assist in the coordination and implementation of our import compliance policies.
      • Assist all levels within the company to understand and comply with import compliance requirements, including by developing and implementation of import compliance trainings.
    • Support the trade compliance team in additional projects and issues related to trade compliance as necessary, e.g., drafting standard operating procedures or presentations, conducting basic legal research, running analyses of trade compliance data, carrying out internal audits of trade compliance issues, etc.
    • Exercise strong ethics in applying trade regulations to our business.
    • Make periodic presentations to senior management.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Basic knowledge of or experience in export control, import compliance, international trade and logistics preferred
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrated inductive and deductive reasoning abilities.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with constituencies outside of the U.S., in particular Japan.
    • Ability to analyze legal materials for internal use.
    • Ability to organize, maintain, and track files of important case documents.
    • Ability to conduct legal research, collect and analyze evidence for export control and import compliance inquiries, and prepare relevant written reports for use in internal cases.
    • Strong organization skills, project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.  
    • Proficient with data analyses and manipulation of complex and sensitive data using Excel or other similar programs.
    • Demonstrated skill in using computer databases to retrieve, organize, and index various materials.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint and relevant software applications.
    • International business experience, preferably in Asia, preferred. 
    • Japanese language proficiency (Reading, Writing, Speaking) preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • BA/BS or equivalent achievement required (EE, Economics and/or Mathematics, Marketing, and/or other analytically based field preferred).
    • 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in a legal and/or regulatory compliance setting.
    • Paralegal, experience in a law firm, and/or trade regulatory experience preferred.
