    HOW YOUR ROLE FITS INTO BOLDT:

    The purpose of the Safety Specialist is to inspire and maintain a “Zero Incident” safety culture, with project teams and other safety professionals across the Boldt Company. You will lead, direct, facilitate, and support project safety and accident programs and initiatives to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. The Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring all required internal and external reporting obligations are met, including monthly reporting of site safety metrics. Through planning, leading, evaluating, and continuously improving the awareness and practice of safe construction methods, the specialist will strive to create a project environment encouraging a collaborative working spirit and an integrated project culture. This position is a full-time assignment located at the Sutter Health Santa Rosa Hospital project site.

    Required Skills

    WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

    • Assist in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through collaboration with project management/supervisory personnel.
    • Assist in supervision and administration of safety/first aid and rescue squad activities.
    • Participate in developing and conducting staff and craft safety orientation training program.
    • Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests for confined space entry, property, damage and personal injury investigations.
    • Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities. Issue confined area entry and “hot work” permits as required.
    • Accompany safety, health and insurance inspections on walk through tours as required.
    • Review safety related journals, catalogs, etc. to stay on top of changes/improvements in protective safety equipment, materials and gear.
    • Assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations.
    • Conduct employee training for craft labor including weekly safety meetings, crew hazard training, and other needed training.
    • Develop and train employees on site specific expectations meeting all local, Boldt, and owner requirements.
    • Develop safety improvement opportunities and review with project leadership to continuously improve project safety performance.
    • Review and address Boldt employee and subcontractor compliance with Boldt Corporate safety policies, OSHA requirements, and permit/STA expectations.
    • Participate in safe work practice development, pre-planning, and hazard elimination with Boldt leadership, craft, and subcontractors.
    • Other duties, responsibilities, or activities as assigned.

     

    Required Experience

    WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:

    • Four-year occupational safety/health degree (or equivalent field experience) plus minimum three years construction/industrial safety experience or equivalent combinations training and related experience.
    • Advanced knowledge and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety regulations required.
    • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures is essential.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills also required
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Power Point and Excel.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to position objects and operate tools or controls. Employee occasionally uses computer keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to position self to maneuver in confined or awkward spaces. The employee regularly is required to remain in a stationary position and move to access people or machinery or workspaces. Employee is occasionally required to ascend and/or descend a ladder or stairs to reach work areas. The employee must regularly move up to 20 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to travel (as vehicle driver and as passenger on various modes of transportation) and frequently performs work on-site at construction work sites. Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor regularly. The employee is required to be able to optimally communicate while on the job site and throughout the completion of duties.

    The working conditions of this position requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to maintain safety and prevent exposure to harmful materials. The environment for which this position functions may be exposed to prolonged loud noises and may contain scents and fragrances. May be requested to work overtime and weekends.
