    Job Title: Landscape Technician Position Classification: Grade 2

    Unit: Facilities and Property Management

    Pay: $17.50/hour

    Job type: Non-Exempt, hourly, full-time

    Reports to: Facilities and Maintenance Manager

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Provides landscape maintenance services as assigned. Performs a wide variety of landscape maintenance tasks including, but not limited to mowing, trimming, cutting, digging, etc. May be assigned to Facilities Maintenance work groups to perform entry-level Facilities Maintenance Assistant tasks as needed.

    JOB DUTIES

    1. Independently or with instruction from a lead person, performs maintenance and landscape tasks relating to maintaining lawns, flowerbeds, trees and grounds
    2. Ensures that landscape standards as established are maintained with an understanding of quality control in all processes.
    3. Shows initiative and the willingness to learn. Offers recommendations for quality improvements in work processes and assignments.
    4. Safely and effectively operates a variety of power equipment including fueling, oiling, basic maintenance, etc.
    5. Coordinates daily work with and reports to the supervisor to review the day's work.
    6. Follows designated maintenance schedule and performs tasks within established timeframes.
    7. Accepts work assignments and executes tasks as assigned.
    8. Performs all duties with an awareness of known hazards and the ability to discern safety hazards.
    9. Follow safety guidelines and instructions and seeks guidance and instruction when unclear on what to do.
    10. Removing debris and waste with an understanding of potential biohazards. Seeks guidance and instruction when unclear about the materials to be removed.
    11. Safely operates ladders with a range of heights.
    12. Perform limited pest control (i.e., bees, spiders and rodents) using appropriate equipment and chemicals as instructed.
    13. Conduct planting, seeding and fertilizing as needed and instructed.
    14. May perform the duties of a Maintenance Assistant as assigned in tasks such as materials handling, moving furniture, supply loading and unloading.
    15. Has knowledge of and demonstrates proper ergonomic practices, personal protective and safety equipment and seeks guidance and instruction when unclear on proper procedure.
    16. Effectively operate current KCR electronic work order system. Must be able to complete appropriate reports and paperwork
    17. Perform daily, routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment as required and reports on status as appropriate.
    18. Report broken or damaged equipment to management immediately.
    19. Ability to work effectively with people of varying skill levels in a team environment.
    20. Maintains a professional and service-oriented demeanor in all interactions with KCR participants, staff and vendors.
    21. Other maintenance associated duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EXPERIENCE

    • 1-2 years of prior experience in landscape maintenance preferred.
    • Small engine repair and maintenance experience preferred.

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS ~~~~

    • Washington State Driver's license and the ability to be covered under the current KCR auto insurance plan.
    • Able to pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
    • Ability to pass a MERIT DCYS certification (national FBI fingerprint check)

    WORK CONDITIONS:

    1. Physical capability to bend, stoop and to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly.
    2. Ability to safely operate bladed equipment like riding mowers, push mowers, weed whackers, hedge trimmers and chainsaws.
    3. Ability to operate power equipment including mower, chain saws, weed eaters and others as assigned.
    4. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
    5. Exposure to chemicals such as oil, gas, weed killer, fertilizers.
    6. Safely utilize ladders.
    7. Wear appropriate work attire and protective gear.
    8. Demonstrated ability to operate electronic maintenance work order system computer application.
    9. Completes other job-related duties as assigned.
    10. Perform a varied work schedule, including being on-call for evenings and weekends, based on a year-round, 24/7 need.
    11. Must safely operate work vehicles, which may include pulling a trailer from job site to job site.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL FUNCTIONS

    1. Demonstrated cognitive ability to recognize appropriate equipment use as designed by manufacturers and instructed by supervisor.
    2. Demonstrated ability to cognitively recognize and accept verbal and written work instructions.
    3. Requires walking, reaching/stretching, intermittent sitting, twisting and bending.
    4. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    5. Requires accuracy, good communication, judgment, and the ability to remain calm and provide appropriate advice and information.
    6. Ability to discern potential safety risks and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of self and others.
