PATH’s Epidemic Preparedness and Response (EPR) program leads several projects and initiatives that serve the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and aim to strengthen global capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats. These include the five-year, Centers for Disease Control (CDC)-funded Global Health Security projects; the USAID Infectious Disease Detection and Surveillance (IDDS) project; the USAID Discovery and Exploration of Emerging Pathogens – Viral Zoonoses (DEEP VZN), and Fleming Fund projects aimed at combatting and preventing the spread of antimicrobial resistance. The Epidemic Preparedness and Response team is seeking an intern based in Seattle, WA or Washington, D.C. The work will be done using a hybrid model and depending upon the public health and PATH guidelines regarding the pandemic.
DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
Through this internship, the selected candidate(s) will provide support to the EPR communication action plan and strategy. Activities will include developing and managing EPR communication materials, researching, writing, editing, and proofreading content like fact sheets, capacity statements, graphics, and project documentation such as presentations and reports. The intern will identify new ways to reach and engage target audiences through creative multimedia content, social media and visuals. The intern will also assist EPR team members with communication resources for presentations, stakeholders’ meetings, events, and conferences.

Through this internship, the intern will gain hands on experience in many aspects of communication within a global health organization. The intern will gain a good understanding of working in a nonprofit organization and have the opportunity to connect with other public health communications professionals within PATH and externally. The intern will build skills in project coordination, project management. Lastly, the intern will gain a deep understanding of how to work across multiple countries and teams in a culturally and programmatically diverse environment.
Required Skills Required Experience
Enrolled in a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in communication, journalism or related field in an accredited university.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English- an additional language is a plus.
Strong editing and analytical skills.
Excellent command over MS Office applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and OneNote. Knowledge of design tools like photoshop, illustrator will be a plus.
Knowledge of and interest in global health, international development, and project management.
Ability to adapt within a fast-paced environment. International work or study experience a plus.
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
The intern will have regular check-ins with the Program Director and the Deputy Program Director to evaluate satisfactory progress toward achieving deliverables. Deliverables will be reviewed for quality and timeliness by Project Director. The intern will be expected to demonstrate flexibility within a fast-paced work environment and adapt to shifts in deliverable prioritization.
