  • Responsibilities

    Key member of the NA Corporate EHS Team and the person accountable for coordination of the environmental activities at OSI Groups’ US facilities.

    Adhere to OSI Corporate Values and Standards.

    Member of the Corporate EHS Team reporting to the NA Director of EHS.

    Act as the environmental liaison to the manufacturing plants.

    Assist the Corporate Sustainability Team in the achievement of our goals.

    Represent the organization during regulatory inspections, customer audits and participate in the internal EHS audit.

    Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, in addition to frequent visits to our 5 Chicagoland plants.

    Provide technical expertise, consultation and coaching to site environmental and management staff on topics related to maintaining environmental compliance, sustaining management systems and promoting environmental sustainability.

    Evaluate, develop, revise and update written policies, procedures, training and plans.

    Recommend opportunities for improvement on an as needed basis to assure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and industry standards.      

    Develop, track and analyze KPIs to show compliance with regulatory requirements and validate corporate standards.

    Establish an environmental activities schedule aimed at maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and customer requirements.

    Develop and manage the relevant aspects of the Corporate Audit program, as assigned.

    Manage external consultants who assist with environmental reporting, plan or permit preparation, and/or process/procedure changes.

    Working knowledge of:

    • Sustainability Activities (energy and water conservation, waste minimization, GHG management, etc.)
    • Management systems (ISO 14001)
    • Air emission permitting and management (Title V, ROSS, HAPs, etc.)
    • Emergency management (RMP, EPCRA, Tier I and II, TRI, SPCC Plans, etc.)
    • Land management (ASTs RCRA, hazardous, non-hazardous, special and universal waste management, USTs, CERCLA, etc.)
    • Toxic substances management (TSCA, PCB, asbestos, etc.)
    • Water management (MWRD, SDWA, groundwater, stormwater, wastewater, etc.)

    Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Required Skills

    •  Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, chemistry or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and abilities acquired through work

    Required Experience

    • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a similar role, managing environmental in a corporate or plant environmental
    • Manufacturing and/or food industry experience is preferred.
    • Knowledge of governmental environmental compliance regulations and their influence on manufacturing operations and policies.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both individually and in group settings, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to resolve problems regarding policies, procedures and environmental programs.
    • Must have interpersonal skills to influence participants and decision-makers.
    • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related disciplines.
    • Professional certifications preferred, such as Registered Environmental Manager (REM), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP)
    • Knowledge of PSM and related activities.

     

    Work is generally performed within, office setting as well as in a plant manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, use hands or finger, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, or controls; may be required to lift up to 15 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision to a computer screen as well subjected to temperatures of cold and warm along with wearing the proper PPE.
