    Specific Job Title: Compensation Analyst

    Reports to : Director of Employee Experience

    Job Summary:

    The Compensation Analyst will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating salary data, participating in salary surveys, assisting in the administration of the University’s merit programs, and providing input in the development of other compensation programs that align with the University’s Compensation Philosophy. The Compensation Analyst will provide guidance and support to the HR Services Team, managers, and employees on compensation-related matters. This role will work closely with the Associate Director of Compensation to make recommendations and identify opportunities for improving compensation programs and practices across the organization.

    Essential Functions:

    • Collaborate with the Associate Director to analyze and interpret compensation data and trends and make recommendations for improving compensation programs and practices that align with the University’s Compensation Philosophy.
    • Provide support to the Associate Director with research and analysis to identify opportunities for enhancing compensation strategies, policies, and programs.
    • Conduct market analysis and research to determine competitive pay rates for various positions across the organization.
    • Analyze salary data, job descriptions and other relevant information to ensure internal equity and consistency in compensation practices.
    • Participate in Industry Salary Surveys and utilize these surveys to benchmark our positions against industry standards.
    • Assist with monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of compensation programs and recommend any necessary changes.
    • Assist with the administration of employee’s compensation programs including base pay and equity awards.
    • Collaborate with HR Services partners and managers to provide guidance on compensation-related matters.
    • Collaborate with Recruitment in establishing job posting ranges.
    • Collaborate with HR Services Team on performance management ratings used for guiding merit increases decisions.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to compensation.
    • Stay up to date with emerging trends and best practices in compensation.
    • Assist Business Affairs Department with data collection and preparing reports for Form 990 reporting.
    • Assist with gathering data for annual Executive Compensation Review.
    • Assist with preparing Faculty Hiring Ranges for each of the Academic Schools.
    • Conduct Faculty Salary Reviews as requested.
    • Work with the Auditing Department in identifying individuals to receive annual conflict of interest statement as directed by the Audit Department.

    Competencies:

    • Working knowledge of compensation practices, including market analysis, job evaluation.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and analyze data.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to compensation.

    Work Environment:

    This position operates in a professional office environment. This position requires you to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, move about, sit, to carry work and use controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, communicate.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience.
    • 2-4 years’ experience in human resources required, 1-2 years focus on compensation preferred.

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $65,000 - $72,000. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
