    POSITION SUMMARY:  The Restorative Justice Data Analyst participates in strategic decision-making with schools, school-support staff, and OSYD leadership to support system-wide policy initiatives that improve school culture, safety, and security. This position serves as an integral part of the Research and Resource Team, assisting and supporting schools with the reporting of bullying, harassment, and/or intimidation via the parent reporting application, as well as other applications on the OSYD Portal, to enhance school climate and culture. The Restorative Justice Data Analyst serves as a liaison between schools, OSYD leadership, and superintendents to ensure the effectiveness of the parent-reporting tool on behalf of OSYD. This position will support data, reporting, and compliance for all Restorative Justice Initiatives across the department. The Restorative Justice Data Analyst will administer data systems and monitor functions for the parent reporting application, as well as provide ongoing support to schools and parents to ensure the resolution of all issues. Performs related work.

     

    REPORTS TO:  Director for Research, Data Analysis, and Systems Management

     

    DIRECT REPORTS:  N/A

     

    KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Will work closely with schools, Citywide/Borough Offices, and OSYD staff, including borough safety directors.  Will also work with key Division of Instruction and Information Technology (DIIT) Applications Development personnel, Office of the General Counsel (OGC), Office of Compliance Services (OCS), senior staff, and other offices and staff as needed.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Support the process of program and policy evaluations, including developing targeted research questions, data collection, data analysis, and synthesis of outcomes to support schools in improving their climate and culture.
    • Engage school support staff in the continuous improvement model using data to create effective action plans.
    • Assist in organizing, managing, and disseminating student and school-level data for use in research and policy evaluation.
    • Participate in the use of key analytics, through the use of both descriptive statistics and more advanced statistical modeling, under the training and guidance of the RRC Director.
    • Provide data and analysis to schools, Borough Safety Directors, and Citywide/Borough Office Liaisons to ensure each school building’s compliance with various reporting deadlines.
    • Update and maintain the OSYD Portal Wiki to serve as a secondary resource to schools and stakeholders.
    • Attend meetings and provide updates on projects and tasks verbally and in writing.
    • Provide technical assistance for OSYD web applications via phone and email to ensure system functionality and data integrity.

     

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

     

    MINIMUM

     

    1. A master’s degree from an accredited college in education, guidance, educational administration and supervision, or a related field; or
    2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one of the following:

             (A) one year of full-time satisfactory professional experience in educational program administration, career or occupational program administration; or

             (B) one year of full-time satisfactory professional experience as a state certified or licensed teacher; or

    1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of full-time satisfactory professional experience in educational program administration, career or occupational program administration; or
    2. A combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to the requirements in "1," "2," and "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least an approved four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

     

    PREFERRED

     

    • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
    • Time management and multitasking skills, especially when handling multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to develop thoughtful and creative approaches for addressing a wide range of analytic questions.
    • Ability to develop concise and powerful research summaries and presentations.
    • Project management experience, including experience with information technology and research projects.
    • Proficient in database design and maintenance.
    • Familiarity creating reports using various tools and applications is strongly preferred.
    • In-depth knowledge of technology.
    • Experience working with large data sets and writing SQL queries.
    • Familiarity with computer networks and applications deployed in NYC public school system.
    • Familiarity with principles of school development and youth development, including fostering school safety and enhancement of school culture.
    • Excellent and effective communications skills, including the ability to write well and make clear, concise verbal presentations.
    • Advanced ability in Microsoft Excel, Access, and PowerPoint for analysis and preparing presentations.
    • Internal candidates preferred.

     

     

    SALARY: $70,370+

    High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred with 3+ years’ experience in legal word processing or legal field

    Advanced knowledge of MS Office programs including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint

    Minimum typing speed of 60 wpm with 95% accuracy

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Ability to work through complex legal document markups and instructions in a timely and accurate manner

    Ability to prioritize various requests and deadlines simultaneously

    Ability to interact with client and team members in a professional and respectful manner at all times
