    TECHNICAL ASSISTANT IV 

     

    DESCRIPTION:

    The Animal Husbandry Technician will perform routine and customized onsite animal husbandry services for the Animal Care Center, as assigned. All animals will be handled in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & FUNCTIONS:

    • Provide animals with fresh and adequate food and water daily according to SOP's and/or research protocol;
    • Perform scheduled health observations and assessments; Examine animals daily for signs of illness or reactions and reports such observations to the Supervisor or Director
    • Immediately communicate with Supervisor and/or Director regarding any animal anomalies observed;
    • Change and clean animal cages, as scheduled;
    • Assist with animal intake, evaluation and treatment;
    • Complete and maintain all applicable logs and check sheets, as required;
    • Understand and follow appropriate procedures according to animal species as presented in Facility SOPS
    • Monitor facility conditions (including temperature and humidity data) and maintain all applicable logs and check sheets for same;
    • Immediately report any facilities issue to Supervisor and/or Director, as well as Facilities Services if directed to by Supervisor/Director
    • Operate & maintain cage washers and other equipment, as instructed;
    • Clean and sanitize animal facility following established protocols and schedules;
    • Stock supplies, as needed;
    • Maintain work and general facility/lab areas in a neat and organized manner;
    • Perform all tasks in a way to minimize or prevent transfer of infection.
    • Perform other duties as required.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • AALAS certification strongly preferred
    • High School Diploma or equivalent;
    • Minimum of two (2) years of husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility;
    • Must have reliable transportation;
    • Must be punctual and cooperative with all members of Company, Client Company and other team members;
    • Ability to prioritize work schedule(s) and follow tasks through from inception to completion using good judgment, tact and discretion;
    • Flexible, self-motivated team-player who is able to work well with others and independently;
    • Willingness to learn and to perform various duties in keeping with the Animal Care Center and/or Faculty's changing needs, is an absolute must;
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
