    Job Description

    Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 100 firm seeking an experienced Associate to join its Labor & Employment Department in the New Jersey office (hybrid schedule). This is a full-time opportunity offering sophisticated work in a collaborative, high-performing team, with access to top-tier legal resources and clients. Key Responsibilities

    • Represent and defend employers in litigation involving claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, failure to accommodate, and wrongful termination.

    • Advise clients on employment law compliance, including:

      • Leaves of absence (FMLA, ADA, state/local laws)

      • Wage and hour issues

      • Performance management and workplace investigations

      • Discipline and discharge decisions

    • Draft and revise employee handbooks, personnel policies, employment agreements, and separation agreements.

    • Handle administrative charges before federal, state, and local agencies.

    • Work closely with partners and clients to develop case strategy and prepare for hearings, depositions, and trials.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

    • Licensed and in good standing with the New Jersey State Bar.

    • 5–7 years of experience in employment law in a defense-side role.

    • Substantial litigation experience in federal and state courts.

    • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

    • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple matters.

    Preferred:

    • Admission to the New York Bar.

    • Experience advising Fortune 500 or multi-state employers.

    • Familiarity with federal and state wage and hour laws, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and other employment-related statutes.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Base salary range: $200,000–$235,000, depending on experience, location, and qualifications.

    • Discretionary bonus potential.
