Job Description
OPERATION MANAGER’S RESPONSIBILITIES FOR L&R PRECISION TOOLING INC.
L&R through its long-term strategic planning is seeking an individual capable of managing a Precision Job Shop as our current manager is being promoted. This individual would learn the job duties listed below by working with the General Manager in this position.
The Shop Operations Manager (O.M.) duties include managing all machinist on the shop floor to ensure that L&R customer’s products are produced in a safe and efficient manner with on-time-deliveries exceeding 98.0% and zero quality defects. L&R is not a production shop, but a true Job Shop, so the Operations Manager must have 10 years of broad machining experience, preferably with both milling and turning experience on manual and CNC equipment. O.M. must also have strong mathematics skills, problem solving skills, and be computer literate.
O.M. must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with customers, suppliers, and employees across all levels including human resources, maintenance, and account managers. As an ESOP company, the OM must be honest, energetic, and focused on helping the employees and company grow.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have High School Diploma or equivalent, and 10 minimum number of years’ experience for the specific job. Note: Experience with an ERP software such as Epicor would be an asset when scheduling jobs.
OPERATION MANAGERS RESPONSIBILITIES:
O.M is responsible for scheduling, machine assignments, and employee hours based on current workload. Use Epicor’s ERP scheduling resources to monitor progress of orders through the shop floor to ensure all jobs start and finish on time to meet customer’s delivery dates and post schedules on the machines. All customers are important, do not let any orders go late due to unexpected rush jobs. No due dates are to be changed without Account Managers approval and customers being notified. No account manager’s rush job can take priority unless approved by President in such circumstances.
O.M. shall review incoming travelers and order any special tooling required, and then schedule the jobs to the approximate machine and operator to meet the delivery dates. OM will work with the Machinists, Quality Department and Account Managers to develop fixturing and inspection solutions to ensure the product meets expectations.
Provide employees with special tools and equipment in good working condition necessary to produce quality products that meets L&R’s customer’s requirements. OM would issue purchase orders for machine maintenance and repair as needed.
O.M. will make sure parts flow through the shop and are ready to ship as scheduled and maintain communications between shipping, inspection, and account managers to resolve any production issues. Any problems / issues causing delivery delays must be relayed to the account managers as soon as possible so the customers can be notified.
Monitor employee’s production efficiency and ensure employees are being productive and producing quality product. Work to address any issues with training to help employees achieve their goals.
Supervise, coach, and train manufacturing employees on the shop floor. Make sure employees are cross trained and have an opportunity to learn and advance. Give hands on training to employees for any equipment when requested. Consult with the President if additional training resources are warranted.
Answer questions and give guidance to employees when they have questions while troubleshooting. Explain answers in detail and ask if they still have any questions.Teach, coach and train employees to reach their full potential.
Ensure employees follow all safety regulations. Maintain a safe work environment and make sure no hazardous conditions exist. Stay current with and enforce OSHA regulations.
Employees must be treated with respect and a professional attitude. No yelling, cursing, or belittling of any employee will be tolerated. No problems or concerns about any employee shall ever be discussed with another employee, these conversations should only be discussed with upper-level supervisors and management and treated as confidential. Always determine the truth and stick to the facts, No Gossip or here say.
Document your actions, such as writing a justification for red tagging an employee, when dealing with any disciplinary issues. All supervisors must communicate with employees in a professional manner, if emotions escalate out of control, immediately stop, and request human resources and the appropriate supervisors to join the meeting so the issues can be resolved in a professional manner in their presence and with respect to everyone involved. OM is responsible for providing employees evaluations on their anniversary dates.
Address any quality concerns and keep Account Managers informed of any issues.
O.M. is responsible for organizing used tooling and arranging for sharpening services as needed and keep up with any Tool Boss Matrix issues concerning vendor consignment tooling.
Manage machine maintenance and servicing to ensure machines are safe and capable of holding tolerance. Detailed records of all activity shall be maintained in Epicor and maintenance file cabinet according to ISO and AS9100 requirements.
O.M. will manage stress relieving of incoming materials.
Approve time-cards and verify employee activities in the database and make sure hours worked are correct.
Provide saw department with cut list of materials needed and which department the materials will be delivered to.
