VP of Advancement and Communications
Job Summary:
The VP of Advancement and Communications will serve as a key leader within the Latino Film Institute (LFI), overseeing critical functions that drive the organization's growth, outreach, and financial sustainability. This role involves leading fundraising efforts, marketing strategies, and communication initiatives to further LFI's mission of promoting diversity and excellence within the Latino community in the entertainment industry.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Advancement:
Develop and execute a comprehensive advancement strategy to secure funding for LFI's programs and initiatives.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and philanthropic organizations.
Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and VP of Programming and Innovation to identify grant opportunities and assist in grant writing efforts.
Oversee fundraising campaigns and special events to meet financial targets.
Implement donor recognition and stewardship programs.
Marketing and Communications:
Lead the development and execution of a strategic marketing plan to promote LFI's programs and initiatives.
Manage LFI's branding, messaging, and public relations efforts.
Oversee the creation of marketing collateral, press releases, and promotional materials.
Develop and maintain LFI's online presence, including the organization's website and social media platforms.
Collaborate with program leaders to create marketing campaigns that engage and resonate with the target audience.
Partnership Development:
Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders, schools, universities, and organizations aligned with LFI's mission.
Leverage partnerships to expand LFI's reach and impact within the entertainment industry.
Collaborate with partners to create opportunities for underrepresented talent and promote diversity and inclusion in the industry.
Team Leadership:
Build and lead a high-performing team in the advancement, marketing, and communications department.
Provide mentorship and guidance to staff members.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that values creativity and diversity.
Reporting and Evaluation:
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of advancement, marketing, and communications efforts.
Provide regular reports and updates to the Chief Executive Officer, and at the discretion of the CEO to the Board of Directors.
Continuously assess and adjust strategies to achieve organizational goals.
Professional Development
Engage in annual executive training sessions as part of your ongoing development.
Take ownership of acquiring new skills through participation in conferences, seminars, academic programs, and similar opportunities.
Stay informed about current industry trends to remain competitive and relevant.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new members of the Advancement, Marketing and Communications team in alignment with Human Resources.
Provides guidance and direction for the daily workflow of the department.
Conducts constructive and timely performance evaluations for department staff.
Manages employee discipline and termination in alignment with the VP of People, Culture and Operations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong strategic acumen with a history of developing and executing successful initiatives.
Proficiency in digital marketing, branding, and communication tools and platforms.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong network and connections within the film, animation, or related fields.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
Proven leadership experience in fundraising, advancement, marketing, or communications, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
Track record of achieving financial targets and driving fundraising success.
Deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in the entertainment industry.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job the employee works in an environment where the noise level is usually moderate and constant distractions due to constant foot traffic, phones ringing, and people talking. Hybrid Role, work from home 2 days of the week.
