    The Spirit of the Position:

    LAZ’s continued growth has created an opportunity in our Tax Department for a talented Tax Accountant to join our professional team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a portfolio of managed clients, including certain aspects of monthly accounting and significant tax reporting. This position is at the Home Office located in Hartford, CT and offers a hybrid work option with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

    ****Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for running monthly reports to identify the amounts of taxable and exempt revenue as well as tax rates.
    • Prepares supporting workbook for sales & use and parking tax returns using Excel.
    • Compile and prepare comprehensive monthly financial report packages and submit timely to the Regional Accounting Supervisor for review and approval.
    • Responsible for the timely and accurate filing of sales & use tax and/or parking tax returns using state & local tax portals.
    • Prepare and process funding and wiring requirements, including distributions, taxes, and intercompany settlements associated with tax filings.
    • Responsible for updating and monitoring tax scorecard/calendar.
    • Responsible for overseeing tax exempt transactions, which includes verifying, requesting, organizing, and maintaining client exemption certificates.
    • Prepares and enters standard, recurring and adjusting journal entries as needed for reporting purposes and reconciles the tax accounts monthly.
    • Handles tax questions from Field Operations and Accounting Department.
    • Research technical tax issues using CCH.
    • Assists with filing various state & local business tax licenses/renewals.
    • Assists with certain property tax filings, including compiling data for the property tax declarations as well as making applicable property tax payments.
    • Assists with a variety of audits, VDA’s and amnesty programs, including compiling information requests and responses to state & local auditors.
    • Assists with various tax assignments/projects as needed.

    Education

    • BS degree in accounting or similar

    Experience

    • 3-5 years of indirect tax experience, including sales & use tax

    Skills

    • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products is required.
