    Role Description

    This is an on-site role for a fulltime Certified Medical Coder. At LEE OBGYN, we rely on insightful data to ensure the delivery of excellent healthcare services, and we’re seeking an experienced medical coder to deliver this insight daily. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of anatomical and medical terminology, as well as natural curiosity and an analytical mindset. As the coder mines and interprets patient medical records and other documentation, we’ll rely on them to uncover necessary information to ensure a smooth billing process. Under the direction of the practice administrator and billing department team lead, the medical coder will abide by standard protocols of the profession to complete clean and accurate billing claims.

    Medical Coder Job Responsibilities:

    Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications.

    Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement.

    Serves as resource to other billing staff.

    Validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.

    Assigns codes for reimbursements, research and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing guidelines.

    Follows coding conventions. Serves as coding consultant to care providers.

    Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues.

    Meets/exceed timely filing of medical claims.

    Assists lead or supervisor in orienting, training, and mentoring staff.

    Handles special projects as requested.

    Medical Coder Qualifications/Skills:

    Demonstrates a positive attitude and team player mindset.

    Punctual.

    Prior medical coding experience for a surgical physician practice preferred.

    Successful experience working in an Electronic Health Record system (our practice uses eClinicalWorks).

    Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

    AAPC certified (CPC credential) and/or AHIMA certified (CCS-P credential) required.

    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

    University/college degree, or experience medical records, claims or billing areas is an asset.
