    About the Organization Collegiate Charter High School of Los Angeles is a public nonprofit high expectations college preparatory school in East Los Angeles serving grades nine through twelve. We believe that all children, regardless of race, socioeconomic class, country of origin, or disability can achieve at high levels when they have access to high quality K-12 education. Collegiate’s small school model features a rigorous academic program, an extended day and year, individualized interventions and support to meet all scholars’ needs, and intensive college advising to ensure that 100% of our scholars attend and graduate from the four-year colleges of their choice.

    Collegiate opened in August 2015 with 9th grade, now serves 200 scholars in grades nine through twelve, and is growing to eventually serve 400 scholars. We graduated our founding class in the spring of 2019. One hundred percent of Collegiate’s graduates have earned admission to four-year colleges and universities. Ninety-three percent of our scholars are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch; 86% will be the first of first in their families to graduate from four-year colleges. Tuition-free and open to all, Collegiate serves any scholar ready to commit to the hard work of climbing the mountain to college graduation. The key ingredient of our success?     About this Role

    Collegiate is currently seeking a strategic and dynamic principal to provide outstanding programmatic and adult culture leadership for the school for the 2021-2022 school year. Directly managing and supporting the school’s leadership team and core instructional staff, you will share in leaders’ and teachers’ success, and in turn the success of our scholars, by working fiercely and creatively to support their mastery of instructional learning standards and by helping them drive breakthrough scholar achievement outcomes. You will oversee all aspects of the school’s instructional program, directly managing Dean of Culture & Curriculum, Dean of College Counseling, Dean of Special Services, and Dean of Student Lifeas well as a portfolio of teachers and support staff. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will work to raise the bar and sharpen our team’s shared picture of excellence daily through delivering excellent modeling, coaching, and problem-solving support to your team members, our scholars, and their families.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    Responsibilities of the Executive Director at Collegiate include but are not limited to:

    Leadership of Organizational Culture

    Partnering with the Executive Director, build and execute a shared vision for positive and powerful organizational culture – among team members, scholars, and families alike. Work to create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that excites and invests scholars, motivating scholars to realize high academic and behavioral standards at all times:

    • Model for all stakeholders and staff how to build community by investing families in scholars’ academic success and development of strong character and leadership traits.
    • Model for all stakeholders and staff how to build joyful, structured, safe and positive school culture by holding all scholars accountable and implementing the school’s code of conduct and positive behavior support system (merit system) during classes, transitions, meals, trips, and school events.
    • Model for all stakeholders and staff how to build strong and authentic family-school relationships by exemplifying Collegiate’s core values in all interactions with scholars, families, and team members.
    • Model for all stakeholders and staff how to foster and protect consistently safe, positive and joyful culture by implementing with fidelity all shared systems at Collegiate (attendance policy, homework policy, merit system, uniform policy, etc.).
    • Fiercely protect the school’s organizational culture by “owning it”: give feedback generously, bravely and reliably any time you notice a team member breaking a team-wide norm or struggling to implement a system or scholar expectation faithfully. Coach others on how to do the same.
    • Own your choices and outcomes: Communicate openly and often with the team about areas in which you are working to drive operational improvements for the school, seek out frequent feedback and input; take ownership of all aspects of process and product. Model a growth mindset and expect the same from your team.

    Drive Breakthrough Student Achievement Outcomes

    Partnering with the Executive Director, build and execute a shared vision for and the systems and procedures to support an outstanding academic program that results in breakthrough student achievement outcomes as measured by:

    • Outstanding academic growth across grades 9 through 12 as measured by the i-Ready exam in reading and math
    • Outstanding academic achievement as measured by 11th and 12th grade scholars’ achievement of the College Board SAT’s College Ready Benchmarks in Evidence-based Reading and Writing and Math
    • Outstanding academic achievement as measured by 11th grade CAASPP (SBAC) distance from standard trends
    • Outstanding college admissions and matriculation data with 100% of 12th grade scholars applying to 6+ selective/highly selective colleges and universities
    • Strong college admissions and persistence data

    Leadership of Talent Development & Performance Management

    Lead the instructional team’s development of key classroom management and instructional planning skill sets and mastery of school-wide systems and procedures:

    • Lead and direct all facets of the school’s instructional team’s shared work – from lesson plan development and execution to vision and execution for shared systems and routines (arrival, lunch, dismissal, advisory, parent communications, etc.)
    • Develop and implement a coherent school-wide professional development platform that includes an explicit year-long instructional PD calendar and ongoing coaching and development routines and protocols
    • Develop and implement a data-driven and competencies-based performance evaluation system ensuring that all employees reporting to you receive a written and performance-based evaluation to which renewal and compensation are tied

    Leadership of Program

    Build and operate best-in-class systems and protocols for various facets of school program and ensure high-quality programs and supports:

    • Select and oversee the implementation of rigorous curriculum for the school’s broad course of study as outlined in the school’s approved charter
    • Provide strong oversight of all facets of the school’s academic program, as outlined in the approved charter, including monitoring and management of scholars’ progress toward graduation
    • Ensure sound and consistent execution of the school’s discipline policy
    • Develop and manage a detailed and comprehensive master schedule and calendar that codifies in a time-specific manner all aspects of the school’s academic program and school culture initiatives (daily/weekly class schedule, conferences, j-factor, senior events, etc.)

    Fully engage in the school’s professional development model:

    • Prepare for and engage fervently in weekly one-on-one meetings with your direct reports and coach.
    • Prepare for and lead weekly, monthly and quarterly teacher professional development sessions.
    • Own your learning plan and outcomes: Communicate candidly, positively, openly and often with your teammates about areas in which you are working to drive instructional improvements, seek out frequent feedback and input; take ownership of all aspects of process and product.

    Qualifications for This Role

    Successful candidates for the Principal role for the 2021-2022 school year will bring the following required and preferred experience, skills and qualifications:

    Required

    • Impeccable professional judgment
    • Bachelor’s degree from a -year college or university
    • At minimum three years of classroom teaching experience working with scholars from historically disadvantaged backgrounds and communities
    • A demonstrated track record of driving breakthrough student achievement results among your students
    • A minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in school leadership roles, including at least three years in an instructional leadership role
    • Prior experience coaching and developing teachers using a directive learning model
    • Formal experience managing a team to develop and implement systems and processes that increase the effectiveness and efficiency of a growing organization
    • Demonstrated ability to use multiple forms of quantitative and qualitative data to set goals, drive sound decision-making, and prioritize work and resources
    • Strong oral and written English skills
    • Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior leadership, as needed
    • Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
    • Flexibility and ability to multitask; capacity to work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
    • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
    • A valid California single-subject teaching credential or a pathway for seeking and obtaining one quickly.

    Preferred

    • Excellent written and oral Spanish language skills

    Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
