    POSITION SUMMARY 

     LGBT Network has an immediate opening for a part-time Substance Use Peer Navigator/Outreach Worker (up to 12 hours per week) with personal experience with substance use and/or addiction. In this role, you will conduct street and community outreach with active substance users to raise awareness of LGBT Network’s programs and services. In addition, you will refer those interested in treatment, harm reduction, and/or other supportive services to the Linkage to Care Coordinator.  This position will report to the Linkage to Care Coordinator.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

     The Substance Use Peer Navigator/Outreach Worker is responsible to:

    • Conduct street and community outreach in specific targeted areas to engage active substance users and/or those at-risk for substance use
    • Promote LGBT Network programs and services among active substance users in the community
    • Distribute harm reduction kits and safer sex kits during outreach activities
    • Refer clients to the Linkage to Care Coordinator for program enrollment
    • Attend weekly supervision meetings at the Hauppauge LGBT Community Center
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    • Must have a personal experience with substance use and/or addiction
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred 
    • LGBT Cultural Competency
    • Valid Social Security Number
    • Intermediate reading comprehension
    • Commitment to a minimum 3-month working period

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Flexible work schedule a must, as this position will require working nights and/or weekends
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people
    • Strong communication skills and able to work independently with good judgment
