The Government & Corporate Investigations team at Lippes Mathias is seeking a Legal Assistant to support the team in drafting and organizing legal documents, correspondence, and calendaring. The practice is focused on government investigations with clients to ensure they are in compliance with the complex and ever-changing laws and regulations of both the state and federal governments. Much of the practice involves State Attorney General investigations as well as investigations by the United States Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Homeland Security.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Coordinate travel arrangements
- Manage client relations
- Screen and vet incoming calls
- Manage attorney calendars
- Manage attorney emails
- Create/maintain electronic file directories
- Prepare memoranda for opening new matters
- Assist in the formatting/drafting of legal documents
- File legal documents through PACER or NYSCEF
- Set up meetings by conference call, Zoom, Microsoft Teams or other platforms
- Proofread correspondence and legal documents
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence
- Support litigation discovery by marking and managing documents and coordinating depositions
- Provide other administrative/client support as needed
Our ideal Legal Assistant will have:
- Minimum 3-years experience as a Legal Assistant, ideally in Government and Corporate Investigation law.
- Accurate typing speed of 65+ wpm
- High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- General office and computer experience
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure
- Reliable attendance record
- Experience with editing, revising, and drafting of legal documents
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
- Ability to multi-task and to complete projects with little direction,
- Ability to use discretion and handle confidential information,
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce high quality work products,
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
