    La Jolla Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic RVT that wants to help rebuild a landmark Veterinary Hospital in La Jolla! Quite literally rebuild considering we are currently under construction! We are excited to complete our remodel this April and we are looking to build up our technical staff with qualified individuals. The right applicant will understand our mission. We are here to help the animals and the people that own them. That means we provide a high standard of care and a high level of customer service. Our RVTs are responsible for training our assistants, performing dental cleanings and extractions, developing protocols to constantly improve our service, and working hard to maintain a positive workplace environment through leadership and technical skills.     ABOUT LA JOLLA VETERINARY HOSPITAL 

    La Jolla Veterinary Hospital is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in La Jolla, CA. Our mission is to provide excellent medical care for dogs and cats in an atmosphere where patients and clients are cared for genuinely and compassionately. We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative health care, and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. We are seeking an experienced RVT who shares our energy, drive and ambition and who will meaningfully contribute to our growth and success. 

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Assist in determining animal requirements by helping conduct animal examinations,  reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging

    • Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds

    • Support patient examinations and DVMs by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients

    • Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging and security of controlled drugs

    • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by following documented standards and procedures in compliance with applicable legal regulations

    • Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; updates database in an accurate and timely manner

    • Ability to demonstrate and follow procedures in catheter placement and phlebotomy

    EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS

    • One - two years of experience with veterinary appointments performing above duties 

    • Experience in surgery is a plus

    • Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion

    • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors

    • Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends

    • RVT, LVT, or CVT certification (or equivalent) required

    • Current Veterinary Technician Registration Education Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program High School diploma or equivalent
