    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    We have an immediate opening for a Field Services Department Manager in Baltimore, MD.  Under the limited supervision of the Managing Director, this position will supervise a team of field service professionals charged with collecting environmental samples, transporting them to the laboratory, and logging them into a computerized tracking system. Must be able to gain an understanding of customer needs in relation to sample collections and plan/coordinate actions within the department to satisfy those needs.  Must also possess the ability to effectively manage a team consisting of various experience levels.  Position will require a high degree of client contact. Prior field sampling experience is required. Position also requires a clean driving record and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

    MAJOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensures client/customer satisfaction through effectively managing human capital and other resources
    • Through strong leadership, ensures the department is run in an efficient, cost effective manner, resulting in meeting or exceeding client expectations within budget parameters
    • Works directly with clients to set up collection schedules and address any issues that may arise

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Maintains staff by selecting, orienting, training, and motivating employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legally compliant work environment; developing personal growth opportunities
    • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job results, and giving continual feedback; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards
    • Maintains quality service by enforcing quality and customer service standards; analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems; recommending and implanting improvements
    • Coordinates sample collection schedules and routes
    • Use of positive management techniques in the supervision and management of staff
    • Evaluate technologies, manpower and competencies of staff and facilitate change where necessary to ensure the department is operating efficiently
    • Promote a cohesive team approach to daily operations
    • Interface with clients and customers to provide customer support
    • Ensures equipment and vehicles are well maintained and are in good working order

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Job Requirements:

    • Understanding of sample collection techniques
    • Ability to train junior field services team members
    • Demonstrated leadership ability
    • Ability to use positive techniques to motivate others
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively when interfacing with clients and staff

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Associate’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field of study
    • Prior environmental sampling experience is required
    • Prior supervisory experience is preferred

  • Qualifications

    Advanced Excel and PC skills to include Microsoft Office suite and accounting software

    Must have good knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, and should be good in planning, organizing and attention to detail

    Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communications capabilities. Communicate daily with all appropriate customers and personnel; complete reports as required on a timely basis

    Basic leadership and decision-making skills

    Ability to work independently in a professional manner with a team commitment

    Has initiative to take action, anticipate potential problems and address them early

    Excellent planning and organization skills. Being able to set priorities and schedule activities effectively to ensure timely completion of tasks and responsibilities
